Yes, I can see why a reputable magazine / news site like Wired.com would like to promote a scam. I'm glad you're thinking!

Well then, I guess I'm out of luck. It's too bad, I know the operator of BBPixel used a phpBB based converter to make his and IPB has a VERY nice new converter for phpBB on their site. I wonder how hard it would be to port that over exactly as it is.

Hey all,

It has been a while since I've stopped by and this time I come with a little request. I was wondering if anybody had a good NewBB -> IPB 1.3 converter or if one could be easily made. The one from BBPixel will not work because I'm not using the IPB module and I'm converting multiple NewBB forums (different XOOPS sites) into one IPB forum.

I basically need something that can convert all categories, forums, threads, posts, and users. Since I'm moving over to the IPB registration system I don't want users to have to re-register in order to use the forums. I can't just start clean as I already made all my users do that when I opened up the XOOPS incarnation of my site so any help with this would be MUCH appreciated.

Thanks,
Nick

Bump.

I've got this exact problem. Is there any way I can let my users use certain HTML tags in their signatures? I'm mainly looking for flash support.

Thanks,
Nick

Much thanks Herko, this fixed the problem, I feel like a moron for not noticing the news module in the path. I ended up just editing the sql install file to do nothing, both modules use identical tables so it didn't have to be remade.

Hey Liquid,

I'm not sure, it may help, I feel pretty dumb for not noticing /news/ in the paths I posted. Those were outputted from the PHP debug option. I'm just not sure how to get around the tables issue, I mean, should I rename the table or does it need it even if it isn't used?

Thanks for the quick reply.

I just reuploaded the news module and tried to install it but I got an error about the stories table already being in use by the Stories module. Do I really need to install the News module or can I just have the files in the folder?

Thanks,
Nick

Hey all,

Well, I was about to make my site public and did a last run through test. To my dismay I had a few bugs, but they're all fixed now except this last one that has been really bugging me.

When you try and submit a comment to a news story (Stories module, not News module), you are sent to a white page after pressing the Post button. The comment is added to the page but you aren't redirected in any way. Comments work with other modules; I don't give a "Thanks for commenting" message, which I assume is what I should be seeing. I get the same problem when deleting a comment as well.

I turned on PHP Debug and got the following error when I submitted a comment:

(This is edited a bit to fix line wrapping, this would be a nice feature for newbb2 as invision power board has it)
Fatal errorCannot instantiate non-existent class: newsstory in /home/domain/
public_html/site/modules/stories/include/comment_functions.php on line 32

Warning
[PHP]: main(/home/domain/public_html/site/modules/news/class/class.
newsstory.php): failed to open streamNo such file or directory in file
modules
/stories/include/comment_functions.php line 30

Warning
[PHP]: main(): Failed opening '/home/domain/public_html/site/modules/
news/class/class.newsstory.php'
for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/
lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php'
in file modules/stories/include/comment_functions.
php line 30
(no spaces from line to line mean it was all one line, when there's a space between lines they're seperate lines)

I get the exact same error message when I go to delete a comment. I first get the "Delete child comments" question but after hitting submit, I see the same blank page.

Does anybody know how to fix this? I have the latest version of the Stories module, the module is updated, the creator's site has working comments (www.varlinux.org), and I've even reuploaded the mentioned XOOPS files into the include directory. Comments for other modules work just fine (I tested with Polls) and nothing is out of place as far as I know.

I'm hoping to launch my site TODAY before noon PST but I can't unless I get this bug fixed. So if anybody can make a fix up in the next 8 hours, that would be wonderful

Thanks for any help,
Nick

Much thanks!

All I had to do was add the Flash mime-type and put the url into a <object> tag instead. It's also much easier to manage since I don't need to have a database counting stats, managing clients and click counts, etc. This also saves the server some workload too

This is the perfect solution for some simple rotations!

Thanks again,
Nick

Custom Rotating Advertisements

Hey all,

I'm looking for a module that can manage a large number of flash advertisements. It would be just like the XOOPS banner system except it would publish it's content to a block.

It wouldn't need a "client" system where you sign up clients and then add ads to their "account" or anything. All it would need to do is add advertisements to the database.

Features:

- Can accept HTML/Flash
- No fixed banner size (or if it has to be limited, 120x120)
- Randomly choose an advertisement each time the user loaded the page
- Cacheable so it's only updated every -x- minutes.
- Select number of ads to show in the block

I think that about covers it. It doesn't need to be fancy at all, just able to handle the above.

I plan on using this to rotate content advertisements for content within my own site. For example, I'll make a flash for a map I have reviewed and when you click the ad it will take you to the review. Basically I'm looking for an in-site promotional block.

Thanks for any help, getting this in a few days would be great but I know everybody's busy and nobody's really getting paid for this, so seeing it happen at all would be wonderful.

Nick
