I'm trying with the templates, I'll give it another go.

I'm using the news module that came installed with the 2.06 download. It is working better than Weblogger or Wordpress, it's simpler and gets the job done, and easier for a newbie to edit.

I'm trying to modify the news module to be a personal blog, and there's a couple of things I can't get done (I've survived html coding, but I'm still pretty lost with php).

I want to:

1. remove the topic at the front of the title of my news item. I need to modify the "storytitle" variable, I think, but darned if I can figure out where or how.

2. set the default topic in the news topics block to something besides ----.

Many thanks for any help ;o)!

Never mind, answered my own dumb question. CSS owns cellpadding master control, at least in this theme. Thanks for reading ;o)!

Arg. I hate asking what are probably stupid questions.

I want more space around some of my text blocks (particularly the center block on the front page - I've created a custom block with simple html. In regular web page coding, I would use cellpadding to control this. I thought I had found the place to do that in my theme.html I'm using the dana-soft theme), in the loop for the center blocks, I increased the cellpadding, but it didn't affect my text at all. I then played with the cellpadding at several other levels in the theme file, and it's not affecting my displayed page at all. Am I editing the wrong file (e.g. where does XOOPS go for cellpadding 'master control'), or am I just dumb and missing where to do it? Sorry, I'm not much of a coder, but I'm trying hard

Thanks Ajaxbr - I didn't realize that you'd most kindly provided an actual link to your module - it's working great, much appreciated!!

Good, it wasn't such a dumb question (always hate it when the answer is too obvious!!).

I think I'll try the TinyD and/or Freecontent route. I read the XOOPS for Dummies answer, and while it is an awesome resource, that is definitely one of the places it turns into "Xoops for Dummies ... who know how to code in three languages already". LOL - no complaints, but messing too deeply with html files seems like a sure way to smuck up my site forever.

Ah - Tips and Tricks Module - found it, thanks, that should work. I may even brave the code to see if I can speed up the refresh time.

Appreciate the help!!

Chapi, related question - how do I have two "module free pages" - I want a start page and a second page where I can customize the center text, have blocks on the side columns. I have a top page and module pages, I assume I need to duplicate the top page, but I'm not sure which files in the main directory that involves (sorry, total newbie!!). Be gentle in your answers, I'm VERY new to playing in code .

Thank you!

(Love Tiny Content by the way).

First, let me say that I'm having a lot of fun with Xoops. As a total "non-coder", I'm still managing to figure it out - thank you, thank you, thank you, to the community who is putting this together!

I want to know if there is a module/block available that will allow me to have a block of text that changes every xx seconds. What I want to do is put quotes from customers in a box, and have those quotes change every 30 seconds or so.

I suspect I just don't have the right language to find what I need in the search, I've managed to track down everything else I think I need. Very exciting, I thought I was going to be launching my business with a static site (ahh, where the search for a threaded forum tool can take you...)!
