I'm trying to modify the news module to be a personal blog, and there's a couple of things I can't get done (I've survived html coding, but I'm still pretty lost with php).

I want to:

1. remove the topic at the front of the title of my news item. I need to modify the "storytitle" variable, I think, but darned if I can figure out where or how.

2. set the default topic in the news topics block to something besides ----.

Many thanks for any help ;o)!

Number 1 should be able to be done via templates, failing that I'm almost certain there is a hack floating about that does exactly what you're after.

Number 2 I'm not 100% on. What version of news are you using? Also, have your tried any of the Blog modules out there already made for Xoops?

I'm trying with the templates, I'll give it another go.

I'm using the news module that came installed with the 2.06 download. It is working better than Weblogger or Wordpress, it's simpler and gets the job done, and easier for a newbie to edit.
