I've got an email into the font creator hopefully they have the answer. Perhaps flash is the better way to go in the future for web sites if thats the only way to guarantee what the visitor sees. I bet there isn't a CMS for a flash based site though.

thanks for the info.

yes i understand that this is certainly an option for the single viewer, but my main problem is that the default look that appears in firefox is a font size that looks like 10pt and the default in IE7 is more like 16pt which leads to the look and feel being completely different. i don't want to mask the problem by fixing my machine i want the web site to broadcast the page so it doesn't matter what you view it with.

i was kind of hoping XOOPS was by now producing a standardized format i think its called w3c or something.

any more ideas appreciated.

well "IE7" is ignored by the search engine because it is 3 letters long but i'm sure you know this and i only get 5 results two of which are part of this thread and the show more results button doesn't show anymore results.

i did manage to type "internet explorer font too large" in the search engine before i posted my question and as a result of the search efficiency i chose to ask a question.

thanks for your terse totally unhelpful reply i feel all warm and fuzzy.

Hello,

I'm trying to get my website to look the same to a viewer approaching using Firefox and Internet explorer.

I have version 2.0.16 installed on my server and the site is running well. i've had a theme created by a third party which seems subject to the same problems as other themes whereby IE7 enlarges all the fonts. Can someone tell me how i prevent IE7 from doing this?

Thanks in advance.

I wrote a letter follow up to the hosting company and am waiting for a response, the website did come back on last night, so it took about 24 hours to find and resolve, all of the environment variables looked right when i checked them using the hosting companies diagnostic tools.

If i ever hear back from the hosting company i will post what they have to say as a follow up.

It does look like it was something on their end at this stage.

Thanks for all the help.. i did read the FAQ but even with PHPDebug on it wouldn't generate any errors on the page so i couldn't go any further down that road.

Cheers

i think the index.php on the site is similar to yours the only difference i have is mine says include mainfile not require mainfile. i think the reason you can't read the file is because it has the php extension and is therefor being executed rather than displayed.

Thanks for trying though i'll take any suggestions! i'm going to work through the FAQ since the host didn't call back (what a surprise)

Hi the start module is set to none.

i did change it to be the news module but that didn't make a difference so i changed it back to none.

i tried changing the theme that didn't seem to be the problem either.

Thanks,..

The FAQ is very detailed and technical, i will pick my way through it. i must have missed it because i searched for the word vanish instead of blank or white.

Thanks for finding it for me.

The web hosting people think they know what the cause is and have told me to wait a few minutes, they didn't say what might be causing the problem, but i'm sure the FAQ will work up the reason if they come back with bad news.

Thanks for the help

i turned on the debug to PHPDebug and the home page is still blank, i have hosting company on the phone and they are looking into it, they still haven't confirmed whether or not it is on their end or not although they are taking their time, so maybe, fingers still crossed!

Can i try anything else?

Simon
