It's the default string that XOOPS will add on to the end of your signiture. It annoyed me on my site for a long time until I found out it's a XOOPS function that does it.

I have emptied that directory. Many times. It continues to replace it with the original.

I'm having a similar problem. The theme keeps using the default template, but only for the news module. Theme is FC_Chrome. The only way I can make it look like it should is if I manually edit the cached template. Then when I try to upload my modded news template (nothing in it even mentions using the old news_item.html template but I changed the name so it's basically the same thing) the news reverts back to the old one.
