The problem was the PHP version!

I was using the 5.2, after having enabled the 5.3 everything started to work again.

Thank you very much.

I applied to my 2.5.6 the latest security patch referred to here:

https://xoops.org/modules/news/article.php?storyid=6545

but now the site is working for the public, but after the login as administrator I get a blank page. If I reload the page, appears the home with the message Sorry, you don't have the permission to access this area.

I checked that all files of the patch are in their place on the server.

Any advice?

Thanks in advance.

Upgrade from fullpackage is easy just copy all the files except the mainfile.php and install directory
run the upgrade from the upgrade directory and refresh your system module thats all

I followed your advice and everything worked without any problem: I easily upgraded from 2.4.5 to 2.5.0, the to 2.5.1a with the supplied upgrade package.

Now it looks that everything is fine on the site.

Thank you very much for your great advice: I wish you the best for all your sites!

It seems that you are missing some files, and did you use the fullpackage or only the upgrade?

I used the upgrade package

Nice to know! I believed that upgrading from the full package were far more complicated, to say the least.

I'll try as soon as possible.

Thank you very much.

After a failed attempt a few time ago (see this post:https://xoops.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=73151&forum=74) I tried again to upgrade my site from 2.4.5 to 2.5.0.

I literally followed instruction inhttps://xoops.org/modules/news/article.php?storyid=5881 but without any success.

In fact, if I connect to my site's base url I get the error:

Fatal error: Class 'XoopsPreload' not found in /sitename/index.php on line 24

If I connect to /sitename/upgrade/ I get a blan page (also after having created an .htaccess file with the line "php_flag display_errors on" I continue to see nothing but the blank page.

If I connect to /sitename/upgrade/upd-2.4.x-to-2.5.0/, that looks more promising, I get the message:

Fatal error: Class 'xoopsUpgrade' not found in /sitename/upgrade/upd-2.4.x-to-2.5.0/index.php on line 22

Of course, I coudn't find anywhere the classes reported as missing.

I don't know what to do, but it looks like someone succeeded in upgrading the software: how?

I don't like very much to have rebuilding the site from scratch in order to upgrade.

Thanks in advance.

But Publisher is declared to be in Alpha version. Is it stable enough for production use?

The links section is very important ib my sitehttp://www.gva-acqui.org/.

I use Weblinks (http://linux2.ohwada.net/) since 2005 and I find it a good module, but now I am worried because it has not been updated since april 2009, and I think that it ultimately will not be compatible anymore with recent xoops releases.

What modules could be an alternative to Weblinks?

I think that it would be especially nice if the module could manage (at least for import/export) metadata in standard formats like MODS, MARC, Dubin Core/XML or RDF.

Our site

http://www.gva-acqui.org/

has been running Xoops since december 2005.

It works very well, altough it has not yet been possible to upgrade to 2.5 (I explained this in another forum, without success).

Modules we most rely on are: Weblinks, News and Smartsection.

On the whole, we are a bit worried because of the fact that several modules has not had new releases for a lot of time.

Comments on the site are welcome. Altough this is an Italian site, some parts are in English, notably the directory of web links.

Problem in upgrading from 2.4.5 to 2.5.0

I tried to upgrade my site from 2.4.5 to 2.5.0 but I ran into severe problems.

According to instructions one must copy the content of htdocs from the upgrade package to the root of the site, then point the browser to /upgrade/.

This doesn't work because in /htodcs there is no upgrade folder.

Anyway, the package contains an upgrade folder outside htdocs, thus I copied it onto the server.

On accessing /upgrade the program tries to execute /upgrade/install/index.php that doesn't exist (error 404).

I noticed that a file named index.php is contained within upd-2.4.x-to-2.5.0 under upgrade, so I renamed that folder to install, but this time the programs produces the message:

Fatal error: Class 'xoopsUpgrade' not found in /membri/beppe062/upgrade/install/index.php on line 22.

It looks like in the instructions lack some passages.

General upgrading instruction are rather complicated but doesn't seem substatially different.

Any advice?

Thanks in advance.
