Wanted to confirm that DonXoop is correct. I finally heard back from my provider and it turns out someone else's php/mysql site was using persistent connections and it exhausted the db connections. I've gone back and made sure all my XOOPS sites have persistent connections turned off. But, as mentioned, on a shared server you're at the mercy of other users, the safest way is still to host it yourself.

Has anybody gotten to the bottom of this yet?

I'm getting this same error on one of my XOOPS sites. I just started getting this error today. Previously I had been getting just a blank page??? Here is the strange order of events:

1. Many sites / scripts pointed to my hosting provider's MySQL server (about 10 XOOPS sites, 1 or 2 phpwebalbum - not as a module - , 1 or 2 oscommerce, etc.)
2. One day about 2 weeks ago, 1/2 of them start giving a blank page. No noticable rhyme or reason as to which ones work and which ones don't. All configured with the same db host and auth settings, pointing to different dbs, and directories, but other than that, identical configurations.
3. Moved one of the dbs off to my own privately hosted db servers and it works fine.
4. Went to move another one off and still got the blank page.
5. When I moved that second db back I started getting this error:

This page cannot be displayed due to an internal error.

If
you are the administrator of this siteplease visit the XOOPS Troubleshooting Page for assistance.

Error [Xoops]: Unable to connect to database in file class/database/databasefactory.php line 34

I used standard phpmyadmin import / export stuff to move the databases. In troubleshooting I cleared both the /cache and /templates_c directory as well as turn on php debugging and delete all of the sessions in the config table.

Any help please, I'm totally stuck.

Thanks,

Jason

Another possibility is to use radius. I've got another customer who wants to use XOOPS at their WISP which already has authentication setup through radius. I haven't found any radius support at any of the XOOPS dev sites, but have located the ldap information which I'm including below. It looks like I'll be in the same boat as NT4 that is to synch with ldap and let XOOPS hit that ldap server as well. I downloaded and tried netscape's ldap server which used to have support for NT4 through a plugin called psynch, but now it looks like that company has split off and only has a commercial pay product. I also am trying to get XOOPS to authenticate against an NT domain for enterprise integration. I found a project on sourceforge that I'm going to look into. Too bad this company hasn't moved to AD yet but in the interim I think I can sync the Windows NT domain with ldap and then have XOOPS sync to that same server. I'll try it and report back what I find.
