You must change the paths and the URL by adding /0-test.

I had done that already.

You must empty the cache directories (except index.html).

I hadn't done that - but it seems to be working.

You must also backup and install a copy of the database and modify mainfile.php for using the second copy, else you could experiment on your live data!

I had done that already as well, of course.

Read again!
This is on your local PC with the unfolded archive, before uploading to your server.

Follow the instructions meticulously!

Hang onto your pants man, what I said is that the unfolded archive does not contain those directories - this is on my local PC, as the instructions say. Here is what I'm doing ON MY LOCAL MACHINE:

1) # tar xzf xoops-2.3.2b-to-2.3.3.tar.gz
2) # mv upgrade htdocs/
3) # cd htdocs/

... and at this point, the htdocs directory does NOT contain:
install/
cache/
extras/
template_c/
uploads/

release_notes.txt says to delete those directories, but I can't because they don't exist. That's what I'm talking about. I understand about the difference between the local and remote machine.

Thanks,

Thanks again for your support.

I think my mainfile.php is different because I am upgrading from 2.2.4. My mainfile.php doesn't have XOOPS_PATH and XOOPS_VAR_PATH.

Also, there is no xoops_data directory in my file hierarchy - again I think because its version 2.2.4.

I DID manage to solve the blank page problem now that I changed the cache directory to 0777 - thank you very much for that. The backup site now works normally and I am proceeding with the upgrade. I downloaded the full version of 2.3.3 fromhttps://xoops.org/modules/core/ and am following the directions in the "release_notes.txt" file under "Upgrading from XOOPS 2.0.* above 2.0.14 and 2.2.* (using the full package)". Step 2 of this tells me to delete some files, including htdocs/install/, htdocs/cache/, htdocs/extras/, htdocs/template_c/ and htdocs/uploads/. None of these directories exist in the directory hierarchy that I downloaded above. So I am proceeding in the hope that since they don't exist, they don't need to be deleted, but I'm wondering why the instructions would specify to delete them if they don't exist in the htdocs directory in the first place...

Thanks,

-b-

Thanks for your response...

1)
These are the two lines that I edited in mainfile.php:
define('XOOPS_ROOT_PATH', '/home/kotaki/public_html/0-test');
define('XOOPS_URL', 'http://www.kotaki.org/0-test');

2)
By "/xoops_data/ subdirectories" do you mean /home/kotaki/public_html/0-test and all of its directories? Does this included individual files as well or just directories?

Thanks,

-b-

Hi,

I'm finally working on doing this upgrade, and am first trying to get a backup of my site going. This is the root directory of my currently-working XOOPS install:

/home/kotaki/public_html

To set up a backup site, I copied the above directory and put it in a test directory under the root directory above, like this:

/home/kotaki/public_html/0-test

So the contents of public_html and public_html/0-test are the same.

I then modified the mainfile.php file in the 0-test directory to point to the 0-test directory. When I go to load the new page (under the 0-test directory) in my web browser though, I get a blank white page.

Any ideas why this is happening?

Thanks,

-b-

Thanks for your response.

The download page athttp://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=41586&package_id=153583&release_id=667574 looks like it has a file to upgrade from xoops-2.3.2b and then just a single 2.3.3. Which one of these would I use, and is there documentation anywhere for doing the upgrade?

Thanks,

-b-

Is the best thing to upgrade 2.2.4 -> 2.2.5 and then -> 2.2.6, or is there a better method?

Where is the 2.2.5 download?

You're talking about the full version step from 2.2.4 to 2.2.5, right? What about the other modules (other than the system module)? When you uploaded and overwrote the files, do you keep your other module directories in there and then re-install them from the module admin panel?

I'd like to get some more information on this topic as well, because I'm running 2.2.4 and would like to upgrade. I'm a bit fuzzy on the 2.2.4 -> 2.2.5 upgrade. Is there really no upgrade script for that?

I'm looking for the best way to get from 2.2.4 up to the latest version.

Any help is much appreciated!

I'd like to build an RSS feed from a friend's Wordpress blog into my site. Is there any way I can do that in my forums, or any other ideas how this could be incorporated into my site?

Thanks for any tips,
