As far as I can determine it from the stats I think that visits indeed mean a visit to the website as a whole by an individual. Pages probably means page hits and files the number of files downloaded (html-file, css, image...)

Currently I'm not a very active member in the community, but I would really like to change that. I use XOOPS for some personal purposes and I am planning to use it commercially in the near future. Even though I’m not that active I visit xoops.org every day to catch up. Every now and then I visit other CMS’ websites like mambo. Every time I do I’m amazed by the difference in marketing approach.

I realize that most haven’t even really thought the marketing aspect trough, but they still manage to put up a descent image. Most obvious difference is presentation on the front-page of the website, generally used only as a portal and presentation-outlet linking to various sections, whereas Xoops.org looks like an unordered collection of everything XOOPS has to offer.

For a couple off weeks I’ve been thinking about ways XOOPS could position itself better in the market (both for commercial and non-commercial use). Even though I check XOOPS every day, I don’t check the forum on a daily basis, so I’ve completely mist this thread until now. My current education might not have given me large amounts off marketing skills, but I think I can contribute quite some anyway. I’ve read throughout the thread that a lot of people already volunteered to help out, count me in as well if more help is needed. I’d like to give something back to the community. I understand an overkill off participants won’t do the project any good, so I won’t be offended if the project is full .

Use newbb 2. It's a function of this module. (which is also used here at xoops.org) You could also hack it in, but this is the easy solution

If you want the div to have a fixed size you have to find the xoopsbanner id in your theme.css. There you can give it a size. It doesn't make any sense to put it inside tow div's. The easy way is to simply put it in the div tag in your theme.html file (just insert height and width).

1. do you mean that you want your user to be able to be logged in automaticly by use of a cookie? if yes, you can use GiJOE's auto login hack. look here

2. modules like freecontent should do the trick, not to many wistles and bells, but there are many modules that can wrap your content in your website. look at this category in the module repository: content management

If i'm picturing the same filemanager as you've got installed, the answer is simple: no, only individual files. If possible, use a normal client (like smartftp) to upload files. I know there are webftp's around that might be able to do what you want, but I'm not sure since I always use normal clients.

I'm totally blank on this one. The system module blocks should ALWAYS be displayed. So far you've taken every step I can possibly think of right now. Maybe a dev can shed some new light on this situation, it's very strange. I wish I could be a bit more helpfull.

Donxoop, That featured article block in the newsmodule looks like something i once made for someone here @ xoops.org forum. I made a block where 1 article could be selected as a feature or breaking news article. (including the option to show only the first paragraph or the entire article) it’s a simple piece of code, if you want it I can probably dig it up, must be somewhere on my pc

try to go here:http://www.nzrt4.org.nz/admin.php and goto: system/blocks and activate some blocks, I don't know how but is seems none off the blocks are selected for display.

if you're not logged in, try this first:http://www.nzrt4.org.nz/user.php
