I'm also building a site on 2.2.4. I was going to wait for 2.3 but then I decided that I should end the 'wait for next release' self excuse . I really like the advantages of 2.2x, and I hope it works ok...i dont mind that some modules dont work.

how about a module that lets you add other users as 'friends' and do some other similar things, like a list of friends (w/their status, online/offline) that you can edit, search posts/other data.

I understand XOOPS 2.4 will have this feature, XOOPS 2.3 wont. if you want it right now XOOPS 2.2x has it, but then its not the recomended version (and if you go this path you wont be able to upload to 2.3, but you will be able when 2.4 is out). for the record, XOOPS 2.2x seems to work ok for some of us, and has a lot of problems for others, so its not an easy choice. I hope I explained it correctly, its kind of confusing...

Hi,

I am developing a site using 2.2 (I need the extra features for this kind of site). so far it works well, but this is not online, so testing is quite limited. However, if I go with 2.2 I wont be able to upgrade to 2.3 (I will be able to upgrade to 2.4 from what I read). According to the roadmap 2.3 would be available now, but so far it didnt happen, so my question would be when will 2.3 be available?

I'll clarify now that I'm not asking the developers for a fixed date, but an estimate would be very helpfull. neither am I complaining or anything...well, there is one small complain: I understand that developing this is very hard, that roadmaps and deadlines are hard to meet in softwre developing even on projects where people actually get paid, but I guess some other people are facing the same question on what to do...I think it would be very helpfull if the developers kept us more informed on whats going on...maybe something like a weekly (or less) short forum post with some news.

At last, if anyone is on the same position (not sure about weather to start with 2.2 or wait for 2.3) and wants to share his/hers opinions, that would help too

if I understood it correctly this could be two things. one would be a way of rewriting urls so that I can access my profile (for example) as xoops.org/patagon. I've been following a thread on modrewrite and it seems this could be possible. another would be a page similar to myspace profiles. I personally like the way profiles work now, but it would be great to have the option of users entering more info on a page (and have both/the option). I am not a programmer so I cant do any of this, but I hope someone witht the right knowledge gets interested and this becomes an option for us webmasters...

Mandlea, if you are hacking the files to remove this feature, and if others dont agree with you (and therefore dont make this optional, which I think is the only solution that woiuld please everybody) could you provide the files/instructions so that users who dont like this new feature have an option? I've seen many people asking to get rid of displayname, so for shure there is an interest on this. I guess more people would be interested if they were able to see how this confuses users.

I agree with Mandlea in the sense that this should be an option for the webmaster for end users. webmasters can (and probably should, I am not a programmer so the technical discussion is beyond my knowledge) benefit from having a display name different than login name, but for end users this is confusing at least. why not make it an option? same goes for the 'remember me' feature that obviusly many people want so a hack exists, why not include it as an option and warn of the dangers? I dont say that security is not important, but for some sites is a trade off with ease of use. in my future site there is not much to be hacked, if someone gets the password of a user he/she can post on that name, change the info, the user will be pissed but no other major damage is done (if its not a webmaster accoutn w/more rights). on XOOPS for example one could ask for a display & login name, but this is a very technical community compared to most sites...

And an idea...it would be nice if there was something like a "shy guy's interest", where you send an interest to another user, but only if this user has showed a similar interest in you both get notified. I am not a programer, so I have no idea if this is simple, but maybe it can check if an 'interest' from that person exists before adding your 'interest'. if yes both receive a message, if no, the interest will be there when the other person shows his/hers...just an idea, hope it makes sense
