I just installed Recette on XOOPS 2.0.12a with News 1.3 and it's functioning OK, so far.

Yes, this is an EXCELLENT module, but beware! If you have it installed on your site, DO NOT upgrade to XOOPS' new News module. It will cause Recette to become a white page on your site. They cannot co-exist at present.

Anyone knows, why?

Hi Predator,

I appreciate very much yours and Mithrandir's comments. I feel that there is a very good opportunity right now to have a meaningful and rational discussion about ways to improve XOOPS internal processes and structure, so we can avoid (or at least minimize) emotional discussions in the future.

And I truly hope that we will NOT miss this opportunity!!!!

Prevention is so much easier

So let's continue with this discussion, let's raise issues that should be maybe raised earlier but never were, and let's try to get back on track of making XOOPS the best CMS on the market.

I would also ask all those developers who left to consider coming back, or at least to provide us with a CONSTRUCTIVE feedback on what could be done better.

Let's avoid slipping into personal attacks, but take examples from the best Open Source projects, learn from them, and implement the best practicies in XOOPS infrustructure.

I am sure of that, and I DO like the roadmap.

But I also wish that there are some people on board who are taking care of the management and organization, so we can ensure that we retain all the best developers on board.

Let's face it - the competition of other CMS systems is big, and we should be working smarter and faster than the others :)

I am very encouraged by the recent development (e.g. the XOOPS foundation), but we should also try to reach out and get as many of the talented developers back on board as possible. I've managed couple of OpenSource projects and I know that it's not an easy task, but if successful, the payoff is huge. The key words are: Attract and RETAIN!

The primary goal of our project is to provide fully secure, simple (light-weight), and scalable web application for all XOOPSers around the world. What we can say for now is that we're currently concentrating on making the 2.0.x JP releases secure and getting rid of any possible vulnerabilities found in the previous releases. A detailed roadmap is coming soon as well and will be announced shortly.

And how will it fit into the current XOOPS release? Will it be merged back?

I think, the concern of many of us is that instead of focusing on making XOOPS the best CMS out there, there will be more and more forks, and those of us who are NOT developers will suffer from it by not being able to have one standard installation with all of the best features.

So, what do you think we can and should do to make XOOPS as well known and graded as Mambo?

Let's start a "Marketing" sub-committee that would focus on that. And let's leave the core developers to do what they do best :)

A lot of users of XOOPS are having their own companies, so obviously they know something about Marketing (or at least they think they do ). We would have to define the goals for a Marketing campaign, and then the required means on how to get there (e.g. presentations, target audiences, etc.).

One way would be identify all the journalists who have written about any of the CMS, and then invite them to evaluate XOOPS. Then submit XOOPS to all of the contests for "Best OpenSource software". It seems like that's what Mambo is doing.

And then make an official comparison of features against our competititors to make clear why XOOPS is the "best kept secret".

How can I add a block to a HTML page created, for example, in WF-Section?

ISSUE: I create indivdual pages in WF-Section, or WF-Channel, and on top of these pages I would like to add a "Recent Articles" or "Recent News" blocks, or some other block.

How could I achieve that?

In the standard block administration, I can add blocks only to modules displayed in the "Visible in", but there are no pages that have been created in modules like the WF-Channel.

Any ideas on how this could be achieved?
