Uhhh, English support site? That seems rather redundant unless you are going to convert this project to another language.

Agree! there is no need for Xoopsinfo.org or any other individual Websites. Let's stop the fragmentation of XOOPS and let's work on keeping the information in one logical location (doesn't have to be physically the same one).

http://forums.xoops.org is just fine by me.

Well, it would be interesting to see if we could decouple the Admin interface from the core, and thus let people use the old interface or EXM, without imposing one or the other on anybody. Something like applying a different skin or theme. Just thinking loud...

I really hope that EXM will become the standard Admin interface for 2.0.18

We desperately need to improve our speed of adoption of cool solutions from the XOOPS community and EXM will be the perfect test to see if we're able to do it.

So I would like to challenge the current CORE team to commit to do it ASAP!!!! (after reasonable testing to make sure that this solution doesn't have any bugs)

Without bug? This could take years if you will keep introducing new features

So if you make changes to this hack and publish it please inform me about that ..

I'm not a lawyer, but if this is a hack on a GPL based code (XOOPS), shouldn't it be automatically released under GPL license?

In my understanding, you can do the modifications/hacks because XOOPS is released under GPL, therefore you have to keep the existing license.

Nothing else to say :P

Totally agree. In order to keep XOOPS competitive, we have to move to PHP5 to take advantage of new features/functionality. We have to develop for the future, not for the past. Otherwise we still would be developing in machine code.

But I would love to see a "Conversion Team" that would convert the most popular PHP4 modules to PHP5. Something along the lines of SmartTeam that converted/improved some of the existing modules to Smart modules.

Hacks like this should be tested and quickly integrated into XOOPS.

XOOPS can only grow if we improve the speed of innovation and mostly the speed of adaptation of cool solutions from around the world, like this hack or the XOOPS EXM from Mexico.

I second it! Make it public so other people can contribute to it, and help with conversion to 2.016/017.

I still think that for now it should still be PHP4 backward compatible. The main reason is that there are still many hosts outthere who don't have PHP5 installed default, and a non default installation of PHP5 on some servers has a few limitations which can vary)

It would be bad to discount php4 entirely as we are then forcing users who want to use XOOPS to have to purchase a hosting plan that has php 5, and they wouldn't want to be buying a new plan if they have say 5 sites located on a PHP4 server. in effect we would be limiting usage.

I have the opposite - my VPS host offers only PHP5. Therefore, my suggestion would be to focus on PHP5 going forward for 2.017, and maintain 2.016 as PHP4 only with security fixes.

The people who currently have only PHP4 could easily stay on 2.016 there till next year (with security fixes). But it's more important for us that the Core developers focus on PHP5 and maximize their time on new important features that will bring XOOPS to the 21st century and make it finally competitive again against the other CMS systems.

Congratulations to Mr. (marcan) and Mrs. Lanciault for their wedding on the date of 07/07/07

As you might already know, marcan has been an active XOOPS user and developer for years.
Right now he is a core dev team member and leading the XOOPS 2.017 branch.
We are looking forward to the 2.017 release soon after his two weeks of wedding vacation :)

Well, if we like nice dates (like the 07/07/07), then I expect the release of XOOPS 2.017 on 07/17/07, and NOT on 2/17/08

Marcan, hurry up with your honeymoon vacation and get back to work

OK, just kidding! Congratulations and all the very best to you and your wife!!!!
