Re: Google Adsense in a banner?

I have no experience with those ads but I think that most people just put the provided code in a custom block and show it like any other block. It would also be easy to manually put the code somewhere in your theme (like the current banner is done). You wouldn't need to use the banner system since the google ads handles the rotation and other banner like duties already. You only need to know where you want to show the ads and put the code in the right place using proper html.

I just signed up for this and the custom block works great, good idea to write their id no's down then later when you have them layed out you can delete their titles fo a clean layout..

The really impressive thing is the way the google sytem targets ads against content (provided pages are not behind logins, then it's a bit flakey) you can however filter 100 domains.

This is doubly impressive because google crawled the site Months! ago and content is added to daily. After the dedicated adsense crawler comes round it should get even better.

The Javascript works fine in the banner system also, you can opt for text or images or both. The ads are also a mix of pay per click and per impression.

Provided goggle pay up, lol I think they really got this right I made $11.22 at the time of writing (after 3 days) covers the broadband and hosting just about.

There is one issue with the Jscript, links do not open in a new window! there is an apology on their site, say they are working on it and to please not modify the code
Being transgender is NOT a choice.

Re: Banner Ads

Custom blocks allow different sets of ads to be presented to different member groups (and in various positions).

As far as I know this is not possible with main banner system, would be a cool hack though.

BTW when using html option clicks are not logged within Xoops.

Re: Restricting access to user information

I found time to test this in depth last night and it worked fine until I made one post on the new test account I created.

After that access to profiles as usual

He He caffeine, where would we be without it?

i could probably add the admin check into it aswell if need be..

That would be very cute for the following reason, on future sites I could see some value in allowing admin to stay invisible thereby getting members to use FAQ.

However what I have learnt so far does give me an elegant solution for the current site.

Thanks very much for help with this because I get a lot of registrants who never post, conclusion, they just want access to profiles. Which in turn seems to inhibit genuine members.

This addresses it nicely.

Um, well I just implemented the and no problem with anonymous, they already had no access to user info as already used the (published) hack below??

$xoopsUser or redirect_header('index.php', 3, _NOPERM);

Only issue with it is => 5 post members cannot view their own profile, only edit it, not a major problem and am advised I can fix this. I.E.
........................................
$xoopsUser->getVar('posts') accesses properties of the user so you know what /who they are, you also need to know what the user id of the page that they are requesting is, then you can test for that . So *all* you need to do is to find the variable that refers to which user profile is being requested.

It's the *all* bit I think I may not have time to get to grips with today, lol.

Have copied your revised code and will be working with this more, later

Many thanks to all for your input and insights

Herko, I think what you suggest would be very cool feature and save a lot of admin grunt work.

m0nty, you are too modest guy.

Re: Restricting access to user information

Many thanks for this, not just because it is a solution in record time but also because for a PHP beginner it is a great way to learn by example. Excellent.

2., and 4. I don't see the need for - but they should not be difficult to customise

My need for this is as follows.

I run a transgender support site and do not wish for new members who have not contributed to forums (thereby establishing their reason for membership) to have access to user info of those who have.

We run a two tier system I.E.

sign up and you are a registered user,

Make 5 approved posts and you are a qualified member.

Only qualified have access to members module. So far so good. But, any member can get to user profiles via "who's online" block (core and NewBB2 or userbar info (NewBB2).

I could disable the two preceeding features but feel it would detract from the site

I assume peterr has a similar requirement.

Re: Xcgal and certain group access granting or 2 xcgal install?

I assume you have gone to group manager and synchronised?

Apart from this as far as I know the album owner (or admin) has to set permisions gallery by gallery. Not great because the gallery icon for the "private" gallery still appears, just can't be accesed by the non priveleged group(s).

If installing a second instance of the gallery is your prefered route then you need to upload the second gallery (folder)named something else.

Not sure if you have to change any files in second instance but may look into it because I can think of a few uses for your idea (would maybe like anonymous to be able to have small galleries/upload pics although I would guess there would be security issues with that).

Re: NewBB 2.0 version 2.01 - Digest Manager

Umm, yes what does this function do? I have searched and the result is... This thread.

Have digested threads (as a test) and recieved the message "this thread has been made as digest, you can undigest it later if you wish" so I did.

??
