Please see these comments regarding your requirement that we don't edit the footer that appears....
https://xoops.org/modules/news/article.php?storyid=1163
It's being suggested that this breaks the GPL licence.

Also, I've discovered in testing that you get a database error if you try and create a Title that links to an HTML page and you use an apostrophe in the title.

For example, "Principals Message" will work..."Principal's Message" will fail.

With the new URL Rewrite feuture, if you have pages that link each other, they will be linked each other when using Freecontent, your sources files are not altered.

Then why is it not working for me? Are you actually saying that (when you talk about the "content root dir") that you can't have sub directories? In other words.....you must put all files in that folder...but also, have no sub-folders at all?

As I mentioned, two files that linked to each other in a sub directory did not work. (Sorry, I can't show you via the web as I'm still working on the site locally).

This looks like a module that I'll be able to use and it will save me a lot of time transferring a site into Xoops. However, a couple of comments.

I have twp HTML files in a subdirectory and these two files are linked to eachother....let's say they are file1.html and file2.html...
after adding file1.html into freecontent, the link on that page to the other file did not work. I had to alter the link...href="file2.html" to "/about/file2.html" to show where the file was relative to the top content directory...this is going to take a lot of changing of links throughout a site!

Also, is there any way to separate links to free content with a menu heading? I'd like to be able to put....

Menu Heading 1
--Link to freecontent 1
--Link to freecontent 2
--Link to freecontent 3
Menu Heading 2
--Link to freecontent 4
--Link to freecontent 5
Menu Heading 3
--Link to freecontent 6

I wonder if this is possible at all?

Cheers,

Phil

An app to connect with Xoops?

Hi all,

Just wondered what people's thoughts were on this....pMachine is CMS that seems to be predominantly about blogging. I've always been fascinated by it, as it's produced by a Mac user and at one point, considered using it (although I quickly say I decided not to).

But have a look at this...
http://www.pmachine.com/pmpost/
It's an app that let's you do your blogging work on your Mac and then upload it into your pMachine system/site.

Now, I'm not into blogging, but what are the chances of an application that would allow you to work on XOOPS on your desktop, but from an app rather than a web page?

Anyone ever done something like this? Or is it just not a feasible idea?

Cheers,

Phil

Thanks...I'm just about to launch my first XOOPS site for a school...but it's really basic. I've had that running locally on my Mac and will definitely do what you say once that's out of the way and I attack my main site!

hopefully that suggestion helps ya

Yep! Well and truly, thanks. Will print that one out and stick it to my wall...and will definitely refer to it when I bite the bullet and go to Xoops...probably in the new year.

Cheers,

Phil

Great thread....as it's a question I've been mulling over for some time.

My thoughts on going to a CMS (for this site...www.macguide.co.nz) is the need to tidy up a lot of non CSS-compliant code, let some of the other people that could help me on the site actually help me! But I guess I wonder how much hassle is it going to be in converting?

Is there a way I can take my multitude of pages and 'drop' them into Xoops? I know there's tinycontent and all that...but the physical links that are on my site already are going to be an issue aren't they? I also really like phpBB that I use and am also a Dreamweaver junkie....I guess what I'm saying is how can XOOPS tie into the stuff that I do already (like using DW) but take control of my site so much better than at the moment?

Cheers,

Phil

Well since I started this thread, I suppose I had better make a donation too...so I just have! Heck, I don't even have a site running with Xoops!!...but I'm working on it on my Mac.

I guess now that I've spent the money, I better get to work and make use of it all.

Best wishes,

Phil

Hi all,

Being fairly new to XOOPS (heck, I'm still developing my first site locally on my Mac) I think it's great that there is going to be some re-shaping of the organisational structure of XOOPS development.

I've been putting a few people onto Xoops, but I thought here might be a good place to highlight one thing I perceive about Xoops....

Despite the fact that this appears to be the hub of the XOOPS life (it's xoops.org after all) I often tell people that you are just as likely to find as many modules developed away from this site, as listed on it.

I don't know enough about the back story/politics/history of Xoops, but I find it curious not to be able to come to one site and find out as much as possible (and download as much as possible) about everything happening in the world of Xoops.

OK, you can't stop people posting where and how they like, but as part of the restructure that is being worked on, make sure it is well co-ordinated and well promoted on one site, even if that site has lots of strands to it.

In that respect "Community Relations" will be one of the most vital teams in ensuring the uptake/longevity/enthusiasm/development remains with Xoops.

Cheers,

Phil
