HI
I've been reading through the forum tring to find a solution to my problem:
I've created a html page with some tables that are wrapped into XOOPS using tiny content. The problem is that all the tables show up with width=100%. I've read in some post's that this could be overridden using a style inside the html doc. My problem is that I can't get this to work.
Is there any other solution?

Thanks

Lenny

There are some basic things that should first be looked at before you go on:

Domain registration: Do a Whois on your domain to find out who own's it. If your name (or company) doesn't show up there are 2 things to do; request that she transfer it to your name or think of a new domain.

Hosting: She probably has your site hosted on a plan owned by her. I would seriously consider setting up a hosting plan on your own (or your company). There are many good sugestions in the XOOPS hosting forum, the company I use (Surpass Hosting) has a feature called scripta that will auto-install XOOPS on the server.

Only after your sure about the domain and it's hosting should you worry about installing Xoops

I just got this piece of free software from IBM's page (can't remember the link) that will tell you exactly how long your site (Xoops or other) takes to load. It breaks it down by images, text, etc.
Very Handy.
If anyone else is interested i'll try to dig up where I got it.

Hi
Out of curiosity I was wondering what your averages were compared to my XOOPS site which is getting 7.7 Is this a low value? Is there anything I should deduce from this average?

Thanks

nice. I also use php-stats on my site, just not that nice module :)
I tried wrapping php-stats into XOOPS using tiny content and cjay content but was unable. So I just placed a link.
This module however seems nicely integrated into XOOPS plus is feature rich.
A big "thumbs up" to sylvainb for working on something that was definitly lacking in Xoops.

What attracts me to fixed width is the sense of composition when it's well done. Here's 3 sites to illustrate my point:

gift from grandma

Just two girls

fv shoppes

I think for a site that doesn't need a forum, news and all the other modules available to Xoops, you can really be creative with fixed width for the simple reason that you know exactly what your designing for.
There is another interesting point of view to this discussion that I was confronted with the other day:
I created a site for a client using XOOPS with the standard modules, photos, news, forum, events. Although design wise I only did some small changes to the basic theme of Xoops, it was a hugh step forward compared to the clients previous site. His colaborators and employees loved the site, but, he thought it was too complicated. Although he does use a computer, he is not tech savey. So this left me wondering; is there such a thing as presenting TOO MUCH information on the initial page? Would this be a turn off to the average joe?

Thanks for the speedy answers. The problem was actually something I had overlooked:

<table width="750" border="0" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="0">
<tr>
<td width="750"><div align="center"><font size="1" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">$footer</font></div></td>

I like to build in dreamweaver, it helps me to visually see the end result when building pages, and I didn't catch that the numbers didn't match.

On a separate note, I have a question about preferences:

Do you prefer fixed width sites or expandable (don't know if that's the correct word)?
The reason I'm asking is because I'm creating a new theme and I decided to experiment with fixed width. What is the general consensus?

Thanks

Lenny
