Greetings all,
Im very desperate for a nice chat module and am thinking about purchasing

This one: charges 5 dollars ( I swear Im not affiliated with them,)
called FlashChat 3.7 visit here

I would never hold anyone resposible for their advice (how could I) but the only thing about this 3rd party feature...
(says it is compatiable with xoops).I like that you can modify the flash files and etc.

BUT one of the requirements for using usernames from db, is too include information usually found in say...the "ini file" ie:db username and paswword.

I was concerned about this for security issues. Can anyone check out that site, offer some advice. Bad idea? Possible etc.? If so this could be a nice chat option.

Thanks all!

Ackbarr:
your advice:

I currently back-up my db in a very crude way. ie:I just copy the data folder from mysql. Is that bad?

I have MYSQL-Front
I disabled PHPmyadmin for security reasons...
How do I do a clean backup with MySQL FRONT?

Thank you for your time:

rider,

Checked out your site and didnt see a problem. My res though is at 1024etc.

HOWEVER, I am familiar with a similar problem. I was able to solve it by adding some hard returns after the "lead in text"...

If that doesnt do it then the image is just to big perhaps?

Yeah I get you drift. IMO: that is simply an annoying banner size. I use 125 x 60 and it works fine. You just have to put it in as html.

But that mod does sound useful, Im not trying to sound like Im against it at all. Just with all the mods available it hard to simplif sometimes

Just a quickie...
You can always put the XOOPS banner code to be called somewhere else....

But the kewl feature (it seems) with XOOPS banner is the client log-in feature...

Which I can't seem to get to work. And it also doesn't seem to be counting clicks!

(probably because Im using html:ie:affiliates)
But when I do use local client advertising I'd like them to log in and check their stats. Anyone have any luck with that?

in particular I like being able to add Meta Content
to news articls etc. Geesh really a clean interface.

I think XOOPS could do without the excessive ping images in the admin sections. They look nice but really,
there should be an option to disable the images and just use the links.

No matter which CMS:Fancy effects are not needed in the admin side, functionality and useability and speed are the important factors.

well thats my opinion, and Im xoopsing to it!

2.0.4 is supposed to fix some bugs eh?

Thats good because I seem to have quite a few. I think they are mainly Globals Off issues..is that addressed at all?

BEcause, upgrading is such a task sometimes..I never feel stable!

RE: the tar package here...
I noticed in the modules-templates- there is a call for---

$block.sslloginlink

does this mean you have to have a ss login url?
BEcause I don't think Ive set one up yet.

Should be tommorrow...

no way, if its that soon I guess I should just do an update?! But, with all the modules I've added lately...well Ill have to reinstall all tem to eh?

Also, last time I upgraded I lost all my images directory...I heard this was fixed though.

Finally, there has been one step missing from the wiki on upgrading.

When you re-install xoops, am I right in stopping the set-up when it starts to ask for users?

I've stopped it there before and then just moved over my db with no problems...but perhaps that is not right?

I'd be happy to add this to the wiki if we can come to agreement about this step.

Thanks All!

sounds great onu. , I will however wait awhile...my last upgrade really sort of slowed me down for awhile with all the fixes. So it would probably be better to do a fresh install.

Meanwhile however,
I am very happy this feature has finally been made accessible.

With this one: 'JOE,
how does it affect who's online Block, if at all?

Works with globals off?

Thanks!
