Cache folder questions.

This is a pretty serious set of questions...fortunately they all relate to a crash of a test site, not a live one.

One of the "mule" domains we use for testing went belly up for no apparent reason.... suddenly home page went 'white screen' and cannot access admin area.

The database looks intact.

Exploring the site, we find the cache directory is completely empty.

1. Is there any logical reason for this to happen? ..or, just an unlucky glitch at the server?

Now...the real important question:

Is there a process that can be used to "rebuild" the cache folder?

What else is in there besides adminmenu.php

Although it's a test site...we would like to get it back to it's last known condition. As a test site, we haven't backed it up regularly...

Sure, we could overwrite with an older site backup..
...but I would very much like to know more about this problem and discover a repair procedure.

Learning from it, you know... lemonade out of lemons

Any help?

thanks

Thanks Mark...
The browser should be consistant, right?..but it could be.

...sitting here running FF with 5 tabs, each on a different site...3 have the name recalled, two do not.

I will check the responses on another system, maybe with MSIE.

Looking for some insight on what may be a very basic question for the XOOPS core experts.

I am working on several different new sites, on different servers.

I have just noticed that the username and password (*****) are presented in the Login box when you enter SOME sites...but not in others.

What is the mechanism that retains this info? cookie? DB entry?

Is it a setting?

Why would some have it and some not?

The answer may help me solve a cookie-passing problem on one of the sites.

Thanks much...

Thanks, Julian...

I'll post the idea over there...and we'll see if it fits.

Thanks...took a fast look the other day when I saw it first mentioned. I'll go back and take a longer look.

Right now, I am playing with MyReviews to see if could be modified for the task.

...just checking back on this. Looking to use a known, existing module that can be modified for this data-lookup application.

Anyone with a creative idea?

I would like to hear some suggestions for adapting an existing module to do this:

We would like to keep a tally and report on the results of auctions on certain collector cars. This is a bit like a database.

Main page would list the Date, Location, Vehicle description and Selling price...perhaps in a table format.
Each row should link to a detail page that carries a few images and a dialog about the sale.

We have done this before with plain coded pages, but would like to try it with an existing package....with a user front-end for submission.

Any ideas?

thanks

Problem with SMF Bridge login

Have a problem on a new XOOPS install, hosted on Powweb.
(I mention that since same modules and config works on other servers)

SMF installed, same database.

1. User can login to base XOOPS site no problem
2. User can log into SMF, when accessed directly, no problem.

But...

3. When user logs in using SMF login module, they are redirected to SMF with this error:

You were unable to login. Please check your cookie settings.

If user returns to XOOPS home page, they are shown as successfully logged in.

Currently working this issue on the SMF support site, but am curious if anyone here has seen or solved a problem like this

thanks

There is a XOOPS bridge for SMF... but it takes over the user management and login...to a degree, the tail wags the dog here...

...but it does work.

Zen Cart XOOPS admin problem

Just installed Zen Cart XOOPS 0.3 on a clean install of XOOPS 2.0.16.

It is resident on a new server that we haven't run XOOPS on before; we have this same config on a different server without a problem.

Zen Cart installed fine, and functions normally from the frontend. On the Admin side, when we choose Administration... the iframe loads, then we get a "page not found"

The error shows it is looking for a malformed URL:

The page:
http://www.mysite.com/modules/shop/xadmin/index.php?op=admin

is trying to locate:

Firefox can't find the server at mysite.comhttp.

It's got the formed page link kind of backwards.

...trying to follow the variables back from xadmin/index.php to see what is screwed up, but no luck.

Any help on where to start debugging this? All the config settings, mainfile.php, etc. look good.

thanks
