You have ownership conflict, between the directory and the apache. See my earlier answer to you.

Change the permission of the directory 10018 on your server with the account ownership.

The stupid script has created ownership under apacheID instead of your account ID.

This is a problem that will remain each and everytime a user trys to update.

Deepy or anyone else,
I realize this thread is for the Multisite Hack for 2.2.3 but what changes would need to be made to get it to work for 2.2.4. I think you mentioned that for instance the includes/common.php file would have changes but I couldnt really see the changes between the common.php for the Hack and the one for 2.2.4?

I would dearly love to be able to get the hack working for 2.2.4 so I can start to experiment with just how far I can go with the hack i.e. managing hundreds of sites from a single source code, handling the domain parking correctly and tweaking the table sharing to meet my needs.

If I knew what the steps were in how the hack/xoops interprets a site/subsite and serves up the relevant content, I could probably delve into the code myself and find out where my problem is.

Did you find the files that have changes in it from 2.2.3? Sinply use a good utility to compare the files. I suggest:

http://www.Ghisler.com

First mark the files. You can have the 2.2.4 on the left and new/multisite files for 2.2.3 on the right. Then apply the changes or transport the changes marked in the red, as vilualised in the windows/total commander.

There are some files that have very minimal difference.

I do not have the time to play with it, unfortunately. But if you are successful, do post it here. However, as said by the developers, I would rather wait for the newer 2.3 and hope that there is also a multisite. I can however imagine, that the concepts in many areas would be different and using multisite wold paralise you in the update that you cant update at all.

I was surprised by your reaction and could not gulp your expression to the other post by tom.

Everyone could test every CMS or use it. If they find XOOPS better for their needs than it is good. If not, that does not mean XOOPS is bad!

No one in this thread did try to sell their product. I recommended aMember and AgileCo. Whats wrong. I am not even the user of it.

It is very fair to show a person some alternative. The same happens in other forums. This is an open world of people using open source and by such discussions one sees clearly true spirits of open source.

If it would be a particular company website, I am sure the words you did chose to use "sell your produts somewhere else" would fit perfectly and also could be justified.

If XOOPS is better than other CMS, than no one including to that of developers should not be afraid of other CMS.

Moreover, I like XOOPS more because the XOOPS community is not only co-operative but also an open community and the developers oir users does not see other CMS as enemies!!!

Well, I am playing with Joomla right now for a project where the people are interested in it. I have setup and run lots of XOOPS sites.

I installed XOOPS for a Group and invested about a 100 hours for working and reworking the theme. Someone simply copied the menu and other content of the site I was developing for them and installed Joomla with it. This parallel installation of Joomla impressed that group and I lot my investment.

To be very honest, except Groups permission feature, XOOPS has nothing extra-ordinary to offer to users on the admin side.

As on todays's date, Joomla has much more advantage against xoops, if one does NOT group permissions complexisity as Joomla does have basic groupings - not considering - the coding inside of it! I say this only in view of the total overview of it.

I myself am using XOOPS though, because I feel XOOPS has a chance in the future, if no further disadvantage in the development occurs like in the past.

Tom did point out one of the best opinion.

However, there is anathor option. You can find a software that simply registers and maintain user database and offer login to tow or more stand-alone softwares.

For instance you may choose Wordpress standalone (there is a XOOPS module), if you do not want to be dependent on the module developers, and anathor Galery standalone software and then install a third software that ties the two!

There are softwares awailable for this purpose:

AgileBill:http://agileco.com/
aMember:http://www.amember.com/

Both the software have plugins and will help in synchronising the databases. In the above, AgileBill is much more advanced and ofcourse costs more.

By this system, you simply are out of the stupid dependency and internal fights or delays of any kind of a core in view of XOOPS of Joomla and straight forward depend to directly with specialized softwares for that particular purpose.

To have a similar system into XOOPS would bring XOOPS to a more advanced software status and my messages in this regards to feature request at Sourceforge has been carefully disregarded, most likely due to lack of developers or interest to consider it as an important feature!

Did you know that I always failed in maths!!!

What I meant is to find a sensible solution rather than silly solution to demonstrate to all the users on the XOOPS site.

To be really very precise:

In one month XOOPS management team wants all the users to carefully force a scrolling behaviour for about 1.296 Kilometers.

Do you know how many miles would it be?

Ofcourse I also use right blocks on my websites. However, they have been carefully placed and does not occupy white spaces!

Hello!

I just find it too much to have richt blocks on each and every module page of XOOPS org.

If the blocks on the right are required for several reasons, then there could be a different alternative to implement them, like arranging them in the center or left.

The disadvantage of them having on the right is that they result into occupying white space below them for each and every page generated.

The pages becomes longer and longer, especially in forums, news and other areas where user participation is more.

Hence there are few hundred users each minute who would be scrolling and scrolling each minute extra due to white spaces.

Assuming that each page has about extra 30 centimeter or one A4 paper sheet per user per minute, then each minute about 100 A4 paper sheets are scrolled each minute on an average!

That results to about 6000 A4 sheets per hour and 144.000 A4 sheets per day scrolling action per day on the website of xoops.org!!

Calculating per day length of the users forced to scroll, it works to be 43.200 meters or 43,2 Kilometers of an extra scrolling!!!

Hello Chris!

I have difficulties to remember. I think I did install the oSC Module under multisite, though not sure. Since I did install many many XOOPS websites, I do get confused.

I think it worked after when the multisite got going.

The version was perhaphs before the latest one. However, I can check it out for you, if you do not come further.

The reason why your problem should come in as a seperate message would ALSO because if someone who has similar problem would be easily identify the solution, if you sort it out.

Hallo Chris!

Since I do not use oSC, I cannot help you. Also this thread is wrong to place such a message amd is not related. I advise you to place it again with anathor title so that your message comes in the limelight and other users may be able to help.
