Re: Hacked host?

Maybe this is not the case - but most hardware providers won't tell you the full truth...that being said, maybe your's is being pretty forthright.

More than likely, if your reseller account is on a shared system with other resellers, then there are probably a number of ports open that don't need to be OR should not be. Two groups have been very active lately in exploiting the open ports and submitting trojens - one out of France and one out of S. Africa. If you are really interested in what's going on, try logging in and seeing if you have authority to retrieve all ports and processes running. You might be surprised at what is really open.

The other thing to look for, go into each of your sites logs. You specifically want to find any "wget" strings that are being issued against your site. They are looking for overflows to occur. Okay - this statement is not meant to get anyone all balled up - but hosting companies love to blame CMS's for being so insecure that's how people hack in. IF, and this is a big IF, they were able to get in through an overflow and issue wget commands - then just identify the site, notify your provider, and get the holes plugged up.

Good Luck!

Re: Xoops images

If this helps - I think you are running out of connections. Occasionally, the site will just say "db connection refused"

If I refresh a few times, the site comes back.

Re: Spotlight view on Xoops.org

Some folks don't get the point - it's open - it's free - it's source. There are versions of versions, you just have to look around. No permission needed! Good job Hervet!

Re: Spotlight Module

I have a version I have been re-writing at XOOPS @ IBDeeming! Take a look and see if it looks like something you could use. It took a backseat to other projects I had in the pipe, but I could polish it up for download...

Let me know

Re: My host informed me that My Server Was Hacked through xmlrpc

If you are "dedicated" and i saw where you talked about files uploaded to your system - then I suggest you check your error log files, your accces log files, and at root if on Linux - run netstat and last to see what's going on. Also, do you have a firewall? One of the most prevalent attacks is a system not firewalled, and many many ports Listening and not blocked. THe various onzyou sites out there will use that avenue to gain a telnet session to a seemingly innocent port and begin what I like to term "wget attacks" Gasically working to move trojens and scripts to the temp directory of a site. After they have that control, they can, in some cases, appear to be logged in as root. Depending on the script, they may very well be root. There are just so many things to check...

Re: No images with News 1.43

That's different...you might verify the templates you are using. I have also seen an issue where you upgrade your site, you are using custom templates, but they do not update. Even if you update each module, it does not appear to update the templates. So, what I had to do was go in and blow away all custom templates and regenerate. Very strange indeed...

Now that I think about it...what version of PHP are you using? I ahve seen problems where programmers are using logic for selects that isn't right...in other words, in the code, if the have a '0' or '1' value, they are just checking to see if the variable has a value - not looking at the value itself...

I'll look at the code. Since I am generating custom mods for other sites quite a bit, I do spend a lot of time looking at others code when small problems come along...

Re: No images with News 1.43

It just so happens, I have been working on another type of Spotlight Block and ran into the exact same issue.

The problem does not exist with the News module package with XOOPS, but it does exist with News 1.42 and 1.43 - maybe others as well.

Here's the News 1.43 hack if you are comfortable editing files. I have tested and verified that this does work.

Re: News

So, you went into Admin->Preferences->System->General Settings and set the Module For Start Page to News?

That's not how your site is acting if that is what you did...

Re: VPS Hosting Recommendation Needed

That's exactly one of the setups we offer - $200/month is a good street price! Glad to see you did go with PLESK - it's definately cream-of-the-crop. It's got a few limitations with things like alias email and sub-domain setup. Not as straight forward as cPanel (low end) and Ensim (Mid range), but it's not a pig either!

As far as other companies go, it's all about service...if someone nickels you for cPanel - that's a bit extreme, but if your happy with the service - who cares?!
