FAQ Module Recommendations?

I haven't really looked at any of the FAQ modules yet, including the core module. but I am getting ready to write some FAQ's for the core modules for my site's users and would like some recommendations on whether the core FAQ module is the one to use, or WF-FAQ or perhaps another. I kind of want to get all my ducks in order before I get too far into it.

I find a profound need for this, especially for the site I am building, where my users are not the most proficient with PC's or very internet-savvy. This particular site is a site for family and everything needs to be as clearly explained as possible. I want them to feel comfortable there, and not intimidated to the point of giving up and not coming back.

For example, I recently introduced my brother-in-law to the site in progress, and had the forums and xcGallery up and running. When I got him to the forums (over the phone) he didn't know what it was or even what to do with it, besides look at the categories and say "Very nice ...". I had to explain the whole forum concept to him in real terms (think of a bulletin board in your office ... you write a note and put it there ... and someone writes a note in reply and puts in underneath ... you get the picture) and then the light bulb came on over his head. Now he's good to go.

The same with xcGallery and another user. She thought the whole gallery was the photos that display the latest and random areas as you enter the page and didn't even think to try to click on the categories where the actual albums reside. Once I showed her how to do this, and how to get the actual pic instead of a thumbnail, and even send an e-card, she was ecstatic. And these are but two examples I can think of off the top of my head.

I don't mind writing a user FAQ; the core modules, and many of the more popular modules, aren't too difficult to explain to a basic user if you KISS. I've written a guide for the poorly documented system we use at work, and how-to's for various things we do, as well. So it won't be a big deal. I just need a good recommendation on the best FAQ module to use, or whether an article module might be better.

Thanks in advance.

When I upgraded to 2.0.6 I had a few problems trying to get things done, too, especially in the admin area. I looked in "Groups" and discovered that much of my access rights in the webmaster group had been unchecked, probably as a result of the upgrade (I gues). I fixed it all back up and it worked fine.

I'm not saying that will solve your problem, but it solved mine. You might take a look at Groups. Just a suggestion.

I think there is a need for it. I'm new to Xoops, but not to web sites or HTML, forums, photo galleries, and all that nifty web stuff. So it was all fairly simple once I got adjusted to Xoopsing. And now that I am bitten by the XOOPS bug, I am totally hooked.

I am building a family site, where the users (mostly my extended family, most of whom are scattered everywhere and barely PC literate) will not know how to post in a forum, post a link in Web Links, upload a photo for xcGallery, send an e-card from xcGallery, or any of the other stuff that seems relatively simple for people who have been around the web, or PC's, for a while.

I think a good FAQ for using the core modules would be wonderful, and add-on FAQ's for popular modules would be good, too. As it is now, I am faced with writing the FAQ's myself, so as not to have answer the questions all the time.

In short, I think there really is a need for this.

You're a genius! I looked in newbb's class directory and saw that class.forumposts.php contained 0 bytes. I re-uploaded that file from the upgrade patch, which was in the neighborhood of 13K, and it now works just fine.

Rich, thank you so much for your help. I would have been pulling my hair out for hours over this and would probably not have thought to check file size, or the possiblity of corrupted files, for a while, if at all.

I think it may have occurred because I simply did a one click batch upload from the html folder in the upgrade zip, and it may have corrupted this one on the upload. Hard to say. But you are a life saver! Thanks again!

Here's the PHP debug error Iget when I attempt to make a new post ... does this mean anything substantial?

Fatal error: Cannot instantiate non-existent class: forumposts in ../modules/newbb/post.php on line 149

Thanks again for your help!

This forum thing is becoming a problem. When I upgraded to 2.0.6, I could not view the topics in my forums. Everything else was okay, except when you click on a topic you get a blank screen.

I did the update in the admin section first, too. So next, I uninstalled the forum module and reinstalled it. Still the blank screen regarding viewing, and posting, topics. I did another update in the admin section, and still nothing.

Everything else in the forum section works fine. Except now, I cannot post topics (I have no existing topics any more because I re-installed). Anyone have any ideas?

I am having this same problem since I upgraded from 2.0.5 to 2.0.6. I did the forum module upgrade within the admin area. Everything displays fine except when you click on a topic, then you get a blank screen.

Other than that, I haven't experienced any other problems with the upgrade *crosses fingers* ...

Thank you for the prompt response! In hindsight I suppose that makes all the sense in the world. But it's kind of confusing if you don't know that. Thanks again!
