Thanks...the Fantastico comment was just one that I picked up on in another thread, but didn't actually say what the cause was or how to solve it...just that people that had used Fantastico as an installer sometimes experienced this.

With regards the other comments....no, that's way out of the league of what I or the school would want to do...and we're very happy with the new host of the website, who we moved to because of PHP, mySQL etc...as I knew that I wanted to use Xoops.

Any other ideas anyone?

Thanks again.

Phil

Hi all,

My first XOOPS site is up and running finally! (http://www.pnins.school.nz). I had a few problems installing, not sure what it was, so in the end, as the host had Fantastico available, I used that to install XOOPS at the top level.

The site's working fine and users login (just two or three people have access) by putting "/user.php" at the end of the URL for the site. The problem I'm finding is that no matter what machine I sit at...PC, Mac....no matter what browser I'm using....I end up having to log in twice?

What happens is that it accepts my login and welcomes me...it often even gives me access to the back area of the site....but if I try and do anything, it says I don't have permission and redirects me to the main page. The only way to overcome it is to start the process over again and the second time it then works.

As I say, I've tried this on a few different machines, so I'm not sure what it is. It was suggested in another posting about a different issue, that a Fantastico installation causes these problems, but how do I overcome them? I really don't want to have to go through a manual install.

Any suggestions?

Cheers,

Phil

I've got a slightly similar problem. I don't have any login box visible on the site (www.pnins.school.nz) but instead admin users add "/user.php to the URL to log in. I've discovered that I can login and it takes me to the main page, but admin menus that should appear just for me don't....and I find I have to login twice.

I've tested it on multiple browsers and it's the same every time, so it's not the browser caching anything.

Anyway, I really stuffed up my first install, so I resorted to using the hosting companies cpanel and Fantastico installer facility. But, I've just been doing some searching in these forums and found this comment....

Re: HELP REQUIRED!!
If your using Cpanel on your server and used Fantastico to create your XOOPS installation, I have found that you may need to attempt to login twice for some reason. If your installation doesn't fit into what I describe above, then disregard this message. If it does, then try installing it manualy without Cpanel or Fantastico. This fixed it for me

I'm going to contact Stewdio and point him to this thread, and ask if he could offer any more info. I really can't go through and do an install again, so I wonder if there is any other solution?

Cheers,

Phil

Thanks for that. It didn't like me removing the whole function, but just commenting out the two lines that start with $new and refer to the gif images did the trick.

Thanks again. I'm all done locally now, ready to launch my first XOOPS site...yeehah!

Hi all,

I'm customising the download module (by altering template files) and turning it into a module that will allow school newsletters to be posted on a web site. I've got it all done, except the fact that a "New" button appears next to each file name when the files are listed on a page...I don't want it!

I can't figure out how to stop the "New" button appearing...which template file can I alter?

Cheers,

Phil

Is there any way to set the default on this page? My site (in development locally) always switches back to "Visible - All" to show all blocks....and I'm forever wanting it to be set at "Yes", so I just see what I have used.

I've gone right back to one of my first ideas, and have decided to use the downloads module that comes with Xoops....I've going to have to a lot of customising (there's so much that simply doesn't need to be displayed) but it will ultimately be the best approach I think.

Thanks, but no....neither of those really fit the bill. Filemanager just gives you file access to your XOOPS directory of sorts, and DMS (at version 0.5) doesn't really do much at all....I couldn't install it properly or get it to work, despite reading some of the postings about it on this site.

Anyone else got any ideas?

Cheers,

Phil

Hi all,

The site I mention is now complete in static HTML form....www.pnins.school.nz

I'm all ready to go with an XOOPS version, but the newsletter/file/word doc idea is something I still can't figure out how to do.

Basically you can see it in action on the site if you click on the main page newsletter icon or click on the "Previous" link under the newsletter icon. I want the admin of the site to be able to log in, upload a file (a word doc newsletter) and this become the main link....all previous files would become part of an archive of old newsletters.

I'm really needing this to be simple. I've tried 'arms', 'filemanage', 'mydownloads' and more.

Can someone suggest an easy way to do it, or point me to a simple to use module?

The person administering the site is not a web designer....so I really need this to be simple. At the moment, I'm maintaining the site for them.

Phil
