Hi,

I have had a fairly good look through the modules, the 'others', the 'hacks',etc, and there doesn't appear to be a module that will suit my needs.

So, maybe I need to find out how to make a module in XOOPS ?

I want to use the existing db (doh !! ), add some new tables that will contain all the necessary data needed for web hosting plans. Basically .......

* Plan ID
* Plan Name
* Plan Cost (hhm, multiple currencies ??)
* Plan Features

The settings for features may be (yes/no - boolean) or a number, to indicate the number (example - email accounts), so there are many features to a single plan. I don't see any problems with designing the db tables, but would of course want/need this to be developed so that the 'admin/webmaster' can maintain the plan prices/features, and possibly an option to either display the plans within the module (normal I guess), OR display them as a stand-alone block.

That's about it for now, if there is a "how to make an XOOPS module for dummies", pls supply a link, or if you have any ideas, thoughts, suggestions (clone another module ?? ), that will be great.

Thanks, :)

Peter

Hi,

In regards to my second question, in the first post in this thread ...........

====================================================

Well after hearing of a number of modules that I would have to use to have content on the main page, I didn't realise how easy it would be to just do it with a block, see:

http://jehoshua.net/index.php

The small 'web hosting' message is just a test, but no modules needed, just used a HTML block, put it in the centre, activated it for annonymous users, and it worked.

This is great, now I know this is the product for me, I'll be able to control any sort of content on the front page _without_ having to use modules, or to have to use:

http://example.com/modules/news

or whatever is "pointed to" the main page. This is really good news, XOOPS is even more powerful than I first thought. :)
==================================================

Thanks,

Peter

Sorry, I didn't understand what you meant at the time. Since then though ....................

Hi,

Thanks, for some reason, it wouldn't let me in until I did the "I forgot my password, resend it pls" bit, and then when I did login, XOOPS thought it was the first time the 'admin' had logged in, and I see the settings for some things have now all been cleared.

I'll have to work out a method to stop people from registering in the interim, but allow logins to registered users (only me for now).

Thanks for your help,

Peter

Hi,

As registered users can see the usernames of any other users (especially of a 'webmaster' or 'admin' level), this concerned me a bit, as I would prefer to keep any admin/webmaster usernames completely secure and confidential.

Couldn't see an option to only let registered users see "non webmaster" type users, I disabled the login box for annonymous users.

Of course, now that I have logged out, I can't get back in (oops).

1. Is there a backdoor method ?

2. I can easily mod the db column, if I know hich one to change.

Thanks,

Peter

Hi,

Good news about thehttp://themes.xoops.org coming soon.

As a rule then, I should check the authors site then. Boy, a centralised respository would be nice, you can see the potential version conflicts.

Yes, I'm surprised also, as I saw it used on the 'theme chooser' on many sites. Well, if someone can find a site with the theme "karate_redux_blue" theme, containing all 14 files, then as the famous man said "you're a better man that I, Gunga Din" (spelling may be off ?? ).

Thanks,

Peter
