yes.. i think, top style is a good tool especially for those not so familiar within html and css. there are tools to validate etc..
If i am working on an ftp-server i use Maguma Studio. there is a free version which can be found athttp://maguma.com
this tool has integrated ftp tools but is originally thought to be a php editor, but you can edit css, html ,.., too.
I use it as an editor for all stuff ...

no.. haven't installed the patch to display two columned news but you will find what you need in the templatefiles of the news modul.. have a look at news_index.html
and news_item.html to add a class for your stylesheet or post this code here to allow us to show possible solutions.

have a look into the theme.html of that theme. Search for
<{foreach item=block from=$xoops_lblocks}>
// here may come ..
<{include file="../theme_blockleft.html"}>
// or the blockfunctions itself ..
<{/foreach}>
Perhaps your beginning theme.html does not have a left block originally? Please post if there were problems.

greets all... i want to give a basic css theme for the community to download this weekend ... what i need are some quick test using older browser mashines...
've basically tested with newer generations of mozilla, netscape and IE... seems to work...

i will try this .. it would be easier for me to use this... i actually found <{$xoops_lblocks}> giving back "Array" as text if leftblocks found, empty cell if none, and i am able to place ids or classes within "<{$xoops_lblocks}>name" but in that way i have i cant place an "if" ...
using different html and css if found or not...
