This is actually not a fix...
Switching to "php mail" solves the problem cause it uses a different send method (the one which uses the php mail function).
If you like to use SMTP:
1.You switch to SMTP method for sending mail as admin;
2.You go in the site with a normal user account and, when you set the mail account, you need to provide a valid email address in the FROM field (this is what kaotik was trying to suggest you).

Could you please provide more infos like the server settings and, perhaps, a log obtained by switching on the debug option of the module?
Please report bugs on project page on dev.xoops.org.

Could you please better describe what's the problem?
What do you mean, for instance, for "I am unable to update any file"?
If you believe it's a bug, please report it to our project page on dev.xoops.org.

To all WebMailFX users:

Please have a look at the readme.txt file before reporting a non-working feature!
99,99% of the cases, a non-working feature is related to a missing CHMOD...

I hope you enjoy WebMailFX!

We finally did it!
WebMailFX 1.0RC1 is here, with tons of new features. Don't wait any more! Download it, use it, stress it, enjoy it and... give us feedback!!!!!
New features in this version:
-Group permissions which allow you to control several features.
-Security features such as "lock to xoops" which will prevent spammers and abuse on your server.
-User created webmail. Now you can list, erase and change mail quotas for your user@myserver.com accounts.
-New smtp class. This new class works with the vast majority of mail servers. It allows for multiple authentication methods.
-Attachments are now sent directly from users computer. No more worring about temporary files on your server.
-Integrated Help. Now you can access a help file from the admin menu with a detailed explanation of what each option does.

Don't know if you are interested, but if you like the idea you could join us in developing WebMailFX. The code you hacked/wrote could be probably helpful/interesting to us also.
You'll find us at:

It seems to me that what you're asking for is some features which are not actually in our plans. The module still didn't reached a 1.0 version: we're working on a 0.85 in our project page at dev.xoops.org. Nor is excluded that some additional features to what our roadmap to 1.0RCx stated (you'll find it in our project page) will be added before 1.0RCx. The point is we're really few people: adding features is not a problem when somebody gives it to us, but at present we're focusing on getting basic functions to work and securing the module.
Anyway: if you want to discuss WebMailFX related stuff, come to see us to:

We're currently developing a webmail module which could probably fit your needs: it is called WebMailFX. The module is still in a developing phase but it promises to be a good one. All in all, it's probably the only one webmail module for xoops, if we except the SquirrelMail port.
Wer have a project on dev.xoops.org. You'll find more infos there:
