Did anyone ever address the problem? I mean it's pretty bad to have both avatar uploads and the image manager both fail.

You can only FTP the stuff up at that point, and that leaves user customization and pictures in articles and several other things a content management system is supposed to do out in the cold!

I'm at a loss. All of this stuff used to work in versions 2.0.14 and earlier. .15 and .16 have been successively buggier with each new release with regards to uploads and mimetypes. This stuff is fundamental to CMS. There has to be a way to fix it!

Thanks for your feedback,

Byron

Error During Images Upload: Could Not Get Uploaded File 0 and Error Loading Mimetypes definition

Hello All,

On a Linux based server running the following:

Xoops version XOOPS 2.0.16
Website URLhttp://motorcycletouringsafetyfoundation.org
Default template set
Debug mode Off
Software server Apache/1.3.37 (Unix) mod_auth_passthrough/1.8 mod_log_bytes/1.2 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635.SR1.2 mod_ssl/2.8.28 OpenSSL/0.9.7a PHP-CGI/0.1b
PHP version 5.0.5
MySql version 5.0.27-standard-log
Status safe mode ON
Register Globals ON
allow_url_fopen OFF This May Cause Problems
session.use_trans_sid ON
GD librairie Support thumbs available bundled (2.0.28 compatible) thumbs available
Upload Status ON
Max upload size 24M

Symptoms:

1. When uploading via custom avatar, or via the image manager from the admin menu, an error message:

Could not get uploaded file 0
Error loading mimetypes definition

occurs with any type (gif, jpg, png, GIF, JPG, PNG) of graphic that I upload, and the upload fails.

2. I can upload via the Avatar Manager add on module just fine, and it worked for admin the first time I uploaded as admin a new custom admin icon. Since then, it does not, except with Avatar Manager (Avaman by GI Joe).

What have I done:

I've looked through the FAQs and the Forums pretty thouroughly, and found a notation about PHP.INI having a blank upload directory would cause just such an error. I've submitted a help ticket to my Web Host (SitePoint) on how to get to PHP.INI, as it's not in my file directory structure. But since Avatar Manager can upload, I don't think this is the problem.

There was another set of forum notes regarding missing mimetypes, in previous versions, but not XOOPS 2.0.16.

What I need:

Can anyone take a look at the site and see if there is anything obvious? If not, does anyone know of this issue and it's solution? It's not a huge deal if it doesn't work, but when I get to adding a gallery and file up/download section it may still not work, and then we'll have a major problem.

Any help would be appreciated. If you look at the time of this posting, you can see I've been pulling out my hair all day and night on this one.

Thanks in advance,

Byron McKay

Re: New users cannot register??

This thread has nothing to do with users not being able to register. Why did the original topic get moved here? The old thread was getting old because NO ONE HAD ADDRESSED THE PROBLEM, although SEVERAL users had the same problem, and it is a SHOW STOPPER.

I'm the guy in the middle who chimed in that I had the problem too. Thanks to not receiving a solution from this forum, I had to jerk out XOOPS, and put in Joomla, which I hate, but where I can at least get a straight answer on technical issues.

Instead of moving problems like this around (in effect closing them because of the thread you moved it into) why don't you get some of the fat cats at .ORG to look at some of these problems and fix them.

Angry? You bet. I spent five weeks getting XOOPS just the way I needed it to be, and had to trash the whole thing because user's could not register.

I am a commercial integrator, and IT Manager for SEVERAL small businesses. I was using XOOPS to help these companies who have very small budgets to get their company Intranets going. But I've got to tell you, your response to technical issues has become unacceptable and I'm now using other solutions.

I didn't mean to go on a rant, and that's not what this is. It's a cry in the wilderness to get you guys to get back to what's important. Making the thing work for new guys and old guys like me. I like XOOPS, I know XOOPS, but when a MAJOR problem comes up, and sits here for THREE MONTHS or more with no response, then I have to assume you just don't care any more.

Moving the thread is the final straw for me, and what set me off. Instead of helping to fix the problem, let's move it and see if it goes away. I'm disappointed. I'm frustrated, and you're probably going to kill this posting because that's what XOOPS has come to.

mxDirectory 3.01 - Blank Pages

I've installed, added categories, added a few listings, and double checked everything twice, but when I go to mxdirectory 3.01 module, I get blank pages for everything. Blocks do not appear on top page either.

Any ideas ???

Good luck
BS

I suppose it could be something along those lines, but I'm using the distribution off of the xoops.org site, and I would think that if a comma was missing there would be more people than just me reporting it. Plus, I can manually add the users via the Admin interface, so the userID is incrementing, and the routine does execute. It's only when the user comes in from outside the intranet server that they get the unable to add user message.

Thanks for your thoughts though!

Have you read this Thread and Q&A?

Yes I did. I tried changing password lenght, user name length, and all of that with no success. In my case, the failure to add the user occurs EVERY time, and changing the variables does not help. I also went to the additional FAQ sighting in that same thread, but it really didn't relate all that well to this problem.

This is a new install, on an intranet, with only fellow employees trying to log in, and it's never worked. In that thread, it worked, and it stopped working.

But thanks for the steer to the thread... I appreciate your time.

Anybody else have any thoughts?

Could not register new user - error on creation of new User

Hello all,

I'm stumped, and have been looking for an answer all day here and elsewhere.

Symptom: A new user logs into the system via the registration dialogue, which allows the form to be filled in completely. The user clicks on submit, and the feedback comes back showing what was previously entered on the form. The user clicks submit again, and an error message comes back as the only thing on a perfectly formed page:

Could not register new user.

Everything else on the system is fine as far as I can tell.

System Info:

* Server: Apache 2.2.0 (Win32)
* PHP: 5.1.2
* MySQL: 5.0.18-nt-log
* Xoops: 2.0.16
* PHPMyAdmin: 2.7.0-pl2

There are no errors in debug mode. Nothing shows that anything abnormal has happened. Additional info:

* Users that are added "by hand" via the administrator interface go in, and work fine.
* Even users added via e-mail by the XHelp helpdesk module get added fine.
* Only users added by conventional registration off the home page fail to add.

Since this is an intranet site, and we only have about 75 to 100 users to add, we can add them by hand, but what a pain in the butt!

I'd like to go live with this system soon, but can't unless I can find a cure for this problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance Xoopsers!

Re: problems with registration

I have this same problem in 2.0.16, using latest Apache2Triad combo.

There is mention elsewhere that going to PHP5 may cause a problem with UID variable not incrementing. I have no idea how to fix it with PHP5 and the new MySQL. Apparently something gets hosed up and the user ID variable fails to increment. Since the UID for the new user is 0, and you already have a user ID 0 (You probably as admin), you get "unable to add user".

I would surely love for someone to give us a fix! I've been looking all day for one, with no joy. And no... de-installing Apache2Triad and downgrading is NOT an option.

Thanks,

Byron

Re: News Module 1.44 : Unable to edit & error message "Sorry but either there are no topics"

Wow! I found my own solution, and I'll share it with you! I had a module installed called "WordBook" which is a glossary module (which I need by the way!), and it not only killed news, but also would not allow anyone to view forum postings from the blocks or the CBB forum module!

Bad Module! Bad Module!

So, off it came, and now everything is working fine. Does anyone know of a newer version of WordBook or a word glossary module that works with 2.0.16 and NEWS 1.51?

Thanks, and hope this info helps someone!

Re: News Module 1.44 : Unable to edit & error message "Sorry but either there are no topics"

Ok.. I upgraded to version 2.0.16 XOOPS and version 1.51 news direct from the home site. No joy still get:

Sorry but either there are no topics or you don't have the rights to post in any topic. If you ar the webmaster, go in the permissions and set the 'Submit' permissions.

If the page does not automatically reload, please click here

every time I try to edit. But I can now delete posts. This is a real show stopper! Can anyone help?
