Could not register new user - error on creation of new User

Hello all,

I'm stumped, and have been looking for an answer all day here and elsewhere.

Symptom: A new user logs into the system via the registration dialogue, which allows the form to be filled in completely. The user clicks on submit, and the feedback comes back showing what was previously entered on the form. The user clicks submit again, and an error message comes back as the only thing on a perfectly formed page:

Could not register new user.

Everything else on the system is fine as far as I can tell.

System Info:

* Server: Apache 2.2.0 (Win32)
* PHP: 5.1.2
* MySQL: 5.0.18-nt-log
* Xoops: 2.0.16
* PHPMyAdmin: 2.7.0-pl2

There are no errors in debug mode. Nothing shows that anything abnormal has happened. Additional info:

* Users that are added "by hand" via the administrator interface go in, and work fine.
* Even users added via e-mail by the XHelp helpdesk module get added fine.
* Only users added by conventional registration off the home page fail to add.

Since this is an intranet site, and we only have about 75 to 100 users to add, we can add them by hand, but what a pain in the butt!

I'd like to go live with this system soon, but can't unless I can find a cure for this problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance Xoopsers!

Byron

Have you read this Thread and Q&A?

Yes I did. I tried changing password lenght, user name length, and all of that with no success. In my case, the failure to add the user occurs EVERY time, and changing the variables does not help. I also went to the additional FAQ sighting in that same thread, but it really didn't relate all that well to this problem.

This is a new install, on an intranet, with only fellow employees trying to log in, and it's never worked. In that thread, it worked, and it stopped working.

But thanks for the steer to the thread... I appreciate your time.

Anybody else have any thoughts?

You might want to look at this and see if it has anything to do with like your problem.

I suppose it could be something along those lines, but I'm using the distribution off of the xoops.org site, and I would think that if a comma was missing there would be more people than just me reporting it. Plus, I can manually add the users via the Admin interface, so the userID is incrementing, and the routine does execute. It's only when the user comes in from outside the intranet server that they get the unable to add user message.

Thanks for your thoughts though!

Hi,

Have just noticed i'm suffering from exactly the same problem. - "Could not register new user". Again, it all works fine when adding users via admin.

It definately worked a few months back. Im a newbie to XOOPS so only guessing here but could it be to do with me removing required fields?

I took out fields such as icq,msn,location etc but i dont know if they are required for activation to work?

seehttp://www.letchworthcornersportsclub.co.uk/register.php

and thanks for any input,

Dan

Have you turned on the debugging for XOOPS (in System Preferences) and checked for any errors? Have you made any special hacks or changed the database at all? At what point does it fail? What error messages do you get?

Because the insert is done with all fields, that may affect Superdan.

Just had a breakthrough that may help Byron get it sorted. Test the registration with urlhttp://www.sitename.com/register.php ANDhttp://sitename.com/register.php

i.e. for me, the url with www. in front has the error message but without works fine.

Hope that this may point you in the right direction.

Where is the debugging info?
