I am very excited to see what XOOPS can add to my site, but I am having difficulty getting it configured correctly on my web host server because my admin is on vacation and I have a HUGE sales presentation and I would like to incorporate some of the XOOPS features. So, per suggestion I downloaded the standalone XSAS version so that I can then create a demo....now my problem is I can't figure out how to initiate the program???? Does anyone know how to start?

I know this forum may not be the most appropriate place for this question but the XSAS forums dont seem to be populated and I am in a major time crunch. Could someone please help? I will continue to search the documentation etc. but the docummentation for the XSAS per se doenst seem populated either.

Thank you for any help you can give!!

John,

Thanks for the information it is what I suspected. I will create a workaround for a demo purpose and discuss the options that are possible with them in the sales pitch. It's not a show stopper just a bench of my first string so to speak lol. Thanks!

trying to create one...the installation stops unless you can give the wizard the name, username and pw to the database

I did speak with the host about a database and unfortunately their mail server went down and he didnt really have time to delve into it and of course he leaves on vacation tonite. All I really need is a members only section of my website that I am actually just developing for a sales proposal. I didnt initially intend to get into all of this until I saw what amazing things the XOOPS program offered and obviously the offerings would enhance my site capabilities and blow them away.

I have no phpmyadmin or cpanel...are these software packages because I will get them with no problem. If you could just please tell me what all I need if this is possible to do without my host....I can get MySql and other software packages if I just knew what I needed. I'm sorry to be so dumb about this like I said I didn't intend to get into this until XOOPS blew me away. Thank you very much for any direction you can give.

I have read the documentation manual and the posts in this forum. Many people seem to be having the same difficulty that I am with understanding the database.

I have a website that is hosted remotley by a provider. To my knowledge and in talking with the administrator, what I undersatand of the conversation is that MySql is running on the server but they do not have a database on the server that they can give you a password to and you can use as some of the posts have sort of suggested. I am wondering how exactly to phrase what I need when I talk to the site administrator?

I am wondering -- is it possible to use a microsoft access database that is in my web root directory? OR, is it possible to download a copy of MySql, create a database and then FTP upload it into my root directory?

Please help me to clarify these things for myself and so that I can ask my site administrator intelligently.

Thank you!

SOLVED!

Thank you to all who answered and assisted me with this. This program looks exciting so I can't wait to get into it. I contacted my provider and the administrator fixed the problem. something to do with that i had to go deeper into the folder directory or something....anyways installing now....thanks very much!

ok I have read the documentation manual and i have changed the unsipped and then uploaded folder to the name "xoops" as it said to do. The documentation manual then goes on assuming that everything was ok and does not address if it is not so that is no longer a help at this poing. I checked the folder location and it is where it should be. If I try to call anything from that folder through the browser, it just times out. I am wondering this...are you uploading individual html files or the entire folder?
