Sorry I pasted in the wrong thing!

Quote:

12. Show links to other glossary terms in the definitions?

If set to 'yes', will automatically link in your definitions those terms you already have in your glossaries.

That is the one that you should set to NO.

Doh!

Check that you don't have option 11 in the config set to yes:

11. Length of string to show in random definitions?

If you have that set and you add a term with multiple words then I found it breaks. Switch this off and all should work.

Cheers,

I would recommend Cygwin to all Windows users. It gives you a UNIX style shell on your desktop. Once installed you can use the local shell to change file permissions recursively with:

find . -type d | xargs chmod 755

then you can ftp or scp the files onto your server. Cygwin has binaries for ncftp and lftp (both command line but very powerful).

Download the setup.exe from:

http://sources.redhat.com/cygwin

When you install have a look through all the packages they supply - the default selection is pretty good but you might want some extras (make sure ncftp, lftp, ssh are checked).

I just upgraded from 2.0.7.3 to 2.0.9.2 with no real problems so far execpt one weird one.

With news 1.21 it shows poster as anonymous on the index page but gives the correct user (me) with the article.php generated page...

I'm not sure if it is a system problem or a news problem... anyway everything else went smoothly so thanks guys.

[EDIT] - Just tried News 1.3 Beta and the problem goes away...

Hey guys,

Sorry for the slow reply. I tried installing both plugins in a fresh install of XOOPS 2.92 and RSSFit 1.03 and copied my rssfit.comments.phps to the plugin directory, renaming to rssfit.comments.php.

When I go to Manage Plugins in the admin menu for RSSFit I see all the modules and I can install the comments plugin. Once installed I can still see the other plugins.

Make sure you don't have any spurious files in the RSSFit plugin directory. If the file is .phps it will not work. If there are other files in there (eg. .something) then it confuses the admin module and none of the plugins appear.

You might also turn on PHP debug / MySQL debug in the XOOPS system preferences and see if there are any messages.

Can you give me more details of how you installed these plugins?

Sorry I can't be more help.

Has awstats been confirmed as the entry point for these Simiens Crew attacks? One of my XOOPS sites just got attacked by these guys. As I don't admin the server I cannot easily check the logs etc. The machine also has telnet and ftp ports open so I wonder if they came in via another route...

The site was XOOPS 2.7.3.

I can't easily upgrade Zend as I am using Debian's libapache-mod-php4.

I did switch off MySQL query logging and that helped a lot.

I tested the same system on another machine with more memory and it was fine with high load so I think there is no alternative but to upgrade the machine.

My XOOPS site seems to struggle under heavy load. It is running on a 1Ghz PIV with 128Mb RAM with Debian Testing. When I get 10 or more users on the front page it seems to grind to a halt. I have tried using openload to test the system and everything is ok when I get a static page (eg. xoops.css) but when the MySQL and PHP get involved it struggles. I get loads of apache processes and a load average of 50 or more!

I have tried setting the XOOPS cache for each of the modules I use to 5 minutes. I have tried testing on a simple page (eg. modules/contact) but it still stalls after about 10 connections. My hdparm gives a respectible 25Mb/sec. My PHP is version 4.3.10-2 with Zend 1.3.0. It is run as an apache module.

My apache config is default for debian with:

MinSpareServers 5
MaxSpareServers 10
StartServers 5
MaxClients 150
MaxRequestsPerChild 100

Apart from getting more memory does anyone have any suggestions to aid with slashdotting?

Thanks
Graham

There is now... 'cos I made it!

You can grab the file here:

http://www.grahamdavies.net/uploads/rssfit.comments.phps

Download and install RSSFit from http://www.brandycoke.com
Save the above file into the plugins directory but change the name to .php not .phps
Activate the plugin from the RSSFit admin menu.
Check your RSS feed works at /modules/rss/rss.php
Optional: create a .htacces redirect to /index.rss

This is a temporary fix and I think comments should be wired into backend.php in the next version of xoops.

Hope you find it useful,
Graham

Is there a way to add XOOPS comments to the RSS feed (backend.php).

I use RSSFit but there is no plugin for comments. I posted a request on RSSFit website (http://www.brandycoke.com) but no response yet. I may write a plugin - has anyone already done this? Can't find it if they have.

Graham
