Thanks for that, I will go with the login hack.

I think the login hack should be decommented in the core XOOPS download package, perhaps with a switch and a notice regarding security.

I want to use it so that users can keep their chosen theme alive without having to login and reset it all the time. I succesfully used the xt_temas module however it had side effects which I was unable to resolve. - Basically it broke my address book module.

There are two ways that I know of to stay logged in.

1. Check 'use custom session' and set a long expiration time.

2. Use the autologin hack.

What is the difference? Would it do any harm setting sessions to expire after say one year?

Sorted! The inability to turn on debug was due to zlib compression being turned on in php.ini

Changing themes was a permissions issue.

Standard php download on W2K3 Server it will fail, I think this has something to do with user permissions having to be set at build time.

The following is a download link to the only php package I could get to work on W2K3 Server.

Since I changed operating system to Windows server 2003 and began using IIS6 instead of apache I've not been able to switch on 'debug' without getting a blank page nor can I succesfully switch themes.

When turning on debug I get a split second to read this message "failed open File". - Actually I just noticed that I get this message every time I try to change anything in the Admin section.

As an experiment I tried a fresh installation of xoops, I got a blank page at the end.

I have granted permissions on the templates_c folder etc.

Can anyone help resolve this resolve this issue? By the way I have read the article in XOOPS wiki about blank pages.

The directive "DirectoryIndex" in the apache httpd.conf configuration file controls what default files apache will search for. I had no idea that the order they are listed makes a difference.

Here is how mine are listed.

DirectoryIndex index.asp index.html index.html.var index.php index.php3 index.py

Choices are always a good thing and I do like the idea but don't think it would be easy (for me) to do.

Mozilla and Netscape are the same thing under the hood.
