2) The main menu is auto-generated, so it cannot be edited from the admn section. The content field of the blocks form for modules blocks is to add additional contents to each block. You can add your contents to either before or after the original cotents of a module block.

2 -) No, the generation is automatic!
the field "Content" is for "add" before or after more information!
For add or remove options from main menu is easy. or set right into groups, or if not use the feature, disable the module!

Experiment with this: create new Custom block, put a title, and create a "Content" inside

And look the result, remember activate this block (visible).

Well, I figured out #1 above. I had to go back and re-edit a topic after I had changed the permissions to force the system to recreate the topictree.txt file in /modules/news/cache.

Still wondering about #2, though.

Hi...I have a couple of questions on blocks.

1.) I have changed all permissions according to the install docs, activated the News block, entered topics and subtopics, entered a couple of articles, and clicked on "update" in the admin menu, but I cannot get anything to show up in the "News Topics" block.

2.) When I go to the blocks section on the admin menu, and I click on a block to edit it, "Main Menu" for example, should I be able to see the content (HTML) that generates the menu in the content field of the form? If so, it is not showing up. If not, how do I edit the content of the Main Menu and any other blocks?

I have been in an error it wasn´t a security hole as said me onokaze.

If you put a link tohttp://www.yoursite/modules/visitors2/ then you could see your statistics.

And to make it no visible for out people put change their permisions in group permisions.

Did you chmod 666 all files under the "cache" folder under "system" module? The contents of main menu is written into a file called "mainmenu.txt" under this folder.

Also some other modules have its own "cache" folder and files in those folder must also be chmod 666.
hope this helps

Please chmod the files under modules/system/cache directory. chmod 666 will do
