What's a block? (versus a 'section')

Hi all,

I'm getting a bit confused. I can't quite figure out the difference between a block and a section.

If I wanted a heading in my menu that was not clickable...but then had 3 or 4 links under it to pages that have content, what would I use...a block or a section?

E.g....

Latest Stories
-- From overseas
-- From here

(where "From overseas" and "From here" would load content if you clicked on it)

I'm trying to understand how to shape the menu so that it has headings and sub-headings.

Or should I be using some sort of module??

Phil

@mvandam

Thnx! Now I am giving it a go. Might it be the best to create a dir XOOPS and in that put the dir xoops-2.0.3 (after unpacking the zipfile) ? Or rename the xoops-2.0.3 dir on my hd to XOOPS and upload that? Just want to have the best possible setup and what better way then asking a expert.

Patrick

Yeah, it just means the root directory "that you have access to". Actually it is just whatever web directory you want to put XOOPS in. Often this is the 'highest level directory' you have access to, but it can also be in a subdirectory 'xoops' or something, in case you have many scripts installed.

Hello,

I am new to XOOPS and I want to use it on my website. When I read the installation file it says:

"If your running in a hosted environment, unpack the XOOPS 2 files locally or on the server if you have telnet or SSH access. Once you done this, make sure to move or copy all XOOPS 2 files from the HTML directory to your root web directory (your provider usually provides this location with directions)"

I cannot copy anything to the very root web directory. Or in this case the installation guide means the directory "httpdocs" ?

Any help would be great.

Patrick

We have a global notification system in XOOPS 2 now, why not using this one to notify about new PMs as well ?? I think there's a big lack !...

It seems that with the new notification stuff in XOOPS 2 that would be a pretty easy hack, maybe I'll try, and maybe somebody else should too....

NewBB doesn't appear to support group-permission for it's private forums. Instead, you have to add each user to each private forum. While I'm sure most folks don't need this, its a feature I'm not sure I want to live without. I imagine I'll just hack the mod.

There are hacks available to do this, written by a user called regen_r8. I think the hack might be found in the downloads section... if not, a search of the forums should turn up some links where to find it (search for 'private forum hack' or 'private forum hacks').

BUT

As I read all these post about IBF, I know I'm going to have to go fiddle with it now...

Re: WebSlave Project - a project managment tool

I downloaded the files, uploaded them to the server, updated the module in preferences and fired it up.

Now, the link for "Add Task" is dead and from the "Active Projects" page, there are no links to the individual projects.

From the main module page, the tasks are listed and the links to the individual projects are there, but when I click on it (eg. with the URL modules/wsproject/index.php?op=showproject&project_id=2)

I get to the "Active Projects" page.

The translation is ok... but I have a bug with the admin part.
The admin form shows the different groups (xoops groups) but when I select webmaster (for example) and I try to validate the form a blank page occurs....

for the main file in french it's ok ... same location
