Re: How to create a module?

Item #7 in the Wiki is what you are looking for, here:
http://wiki.xoops.org/wakka.php?wakka=HomePage

If you want to jump right in, jump to 7.2.2, the Kickstart guide.

I hope that helps. Good luck with the modules.

Re: 2.05 little request...

I didn't see the calendar clock at http://www.modscentral.com/ but, I think I saw it at the XOOPS Dutch Support Site (registration required for download)

Re: 2.05 little request...

I am pretty sure you can move those items around if you don't mind editing the theme file. If you look at the theme file, you will see where the various blocks are called.

I believe it is safe to swap them around (ar the risk of confusing yourself later).

However, I think that once you call the center-left and center-right blocks they can only occur once... not at the top and then later at the bottom.

Or, at least it ceases to be easy after that point... still it is a start. I hope that helps.

In fact, the Spanish support site puts the center-left and center-right blocks above the rest of the content... using x2t theme.

Re: newbie question: xoops an evolved nuke?

You can try this site to give XOOPS and other CMS a try before you download and install:
http://www.opensourcecms.com

There are similarities to other CMS systems, since they all tend to provide a wrapper for content served from a database.

Having said that, XOOPS emphasizes ease of use, excellent developer and support community, and impressive performance.

Xoops utilizes the smarty template engine to further boost performance and separate content from presentation. Styles can be controlled by editing CSS files.

Once you have created your theme, you do not need to use HTML any more at all. In fact, if you want to use one of the existing themes, you can stop using HTML today. You can enter content as regular text.

It does not need to be just news, if you need to create articles, the WFSections module offers tremendous flexibility. You can create blocks, snippets, or articles... in addition to news and forum posts.

Here is a well developed XOOPS site with extensive articles and content.

Re: preventing multiple simultaneous logins *URGENT*

Shine,
I think Jose is more worried about people logging in from different computers at the same time, rather than same computer.
In other words, making it harder for someone to share their password with someone somewhere else.
I think.

URL # feature fails when Message thread longer than one page

In 2.0.4 newbb module was updated to allow the # feature in the URL to take the visitor directly to a specific post.

- Fixed newbb module to correctly use the # feature in URL

However, I think this only works if the post referenced is on the first page of the thread. On a long thread, the visitor is simply taken to the top of the thread instead of to the specific post.

For example, a reference to a specific post in a long thread:
https://xoops.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=11135&forum=4&post_id=51197#forumpost51197

I think this is minor, and I understand why it happens. I'm not sure it is worth fixing, that is up to the devs. Just thought I would mention it so it could be tracked.

IE 6 changes for embeded content

As a result of a patent ruling, Microsoft is changing the way IE6 deals with ActiveX controls, like those for Quicktime, Flash, and Shockwave. By default, the changed versions of IE 6 will force users to click a prompt for each piece of embeded content. (UPDATE: As of January 30, 2004 it is possible that the patent office will end this issue by cancelling the patent.)

There are workarounds presented in the following pages that will allow site developers to change their sites to create a seamless experience for their visitors:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/ieupdate/activexchanges.asp

http://developer.apple.com/internet/ieembedprep.html

To learn more about the story, you can read the background here:

EDIT: Additional Note
A great collection of the workarounds and the downsides of using various approaches can be found here:

Re: Spanish Language for XOOPS

I thought a Spanish language pack was available already. Did you try this:
Xoops v2 Spanish Language Pack

At the top of the xoops.org page there is a link to a place where the available language packs can be downloaded.

In addition, you may want to check out the Spanish support site at http://www.esxoops.com/

Perhaps I misunderstood your question. I'm sure the Spanish language team and the XOOPS community will appreciate your help.

Re: What is e-Xoops?

Quote:
On another note what exactly is this smarty term all about...?

Smarty is a template cache system that dramatically decreases the number of database queries required to generate a page, helps to separate presentation from content to limit theme parsing overhead, and "remembers" compiled PHP. This improves performance, allowing the benefits of a database-driven site with performance comparable to a static site.

For example, if you cache the forum block with a 10-minute setting, the queries and compiling required to produce the forum block will occur every 10 minutes, instead of every time a user requests a page.

By choosing the Smarty cache system, the developers can focus on XOOPS development without worrying about developing or improving the cache.

More information about Smarty can be found at:
http://smarty.php.net/whyuse.php

Re: What is e-Xoops?

e-xoops is a branch of XOOPS based upon the old 1.x version of Xoops. The release of e-xoops is not welcomed by the XOOPS developers.
