Also might want to copy your post.gif from newbb\images to your new newbbpro installation as well because the one that comes with newbbpro is in spanish.

Just a reminder that IPB is erm.. not necessarily chargable. The trial is UNLIMITED without strings, except there is NO SUPPORT.

It has a neat autologin function which means you can use it without a double login within a XOOPS site in an iframe.

Not a perfect solution , I know, but its a great forum. Check out my site forum link for an example.

who told you IPB wasn't free?

IPB is 100% free to use.. you only need to pay if you want to remove the copyright (powered by invisionboard) from the footer of the pages..

you can get the latest newbb2 from the dev.xoops.org site or click module dev forge in the left hand column under Development info..

there is a hack for phpbb to enable group & rank upgrade based on post count. maybe the implementation could be looked at (vanilla phpbb, not XOOPS phpbb)

Make sure you have modules\newbb\images and make sure it's CHMOD to at least 755
Inside you should have a bunch of files that are all CHMOD to 644.

or you could use freecontent module and turn the webdigest off..

then create an html or php file with your homepage on it etc, use your favourite editor to create the html page.. and then tell freecontent to use that html file..

turn off the block and set freecontent as ur top page and voila

of course you will need to edit the html file again if you ever want to change the content.

i'm working on a custom module for my site to be able to actually change the homepage content from within XOOPS admin, but how my homepage is set up i want each box linked.. if u want to take a look it'shttp://www.clubithard.co.uk

the center column is the actual static html page, when i'm finished each section of it will be able to be edited including the image via XOOPS admin..

altho i'm running into a lot of problems as my php knowledge is bare minimum..

As in this thread it is a way to elevate rights based on some criteria like votes or post count. This is a little different than simply # of posts but could be used for that too.

The custom avatar setting uses a post count and is maybe a place to start looking. But it would really need to be an admin function to upgrade users group membership based on a post count. Or a cron job to do it automagicaly.

Just ideas on how to do it. I haven't heard of it being done but the Karma System seems to be close in function.

Thanks for the info but I'm not going to pay for IPB. My site is a free site.

As to the production/stable release, I know it's not ready. That's really my point. Get it done ;) Of course we don't want them to install a beta version on this site, I just want to bring up the fact that this forum software isn't working out for many of us.

I did happen across a module called NewBB Pro. I can't recall where I downloaded it from but it was one of the international (french I think) sites. I renamed my old newbb to newbb_bu and uploaded this new bb pro to modules. Ran the two upgrade files (newbb to pro 1.0 then pro 1 to pro 1.02) and it works like a charm. One language problem hardcoded in the index.php when clicking on mark all as read and one language problem with the new post button but other than that, HUGE improvement over newbb.

It looks almost exactly like newbb, same blocks etc., but has new thread links, attachments, and a few other nice things. It'll hold me until NewBB 2 or phpBB is ready.
