Just want to say that the exact same thing happened to me today when I tried to use a theme (7dana-soft)http://www.7dana.com/download/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=25 that I had downloaded after installing XOOPS for the first time. Big ol' BLANK PAGE! I followed the instructions on XOOPS for Dummies but still managed to f*ck it up. Is there something obvious missing in the instructions? Perhaps they overestimated the dummies

Are there any experts in the LA area (I'm in Culver City) that offer classes or tutoring on XOOPS, PHP, MySQL? If there are I'd be willing to sign up...and pay even.

I went through it but then I got: Check database. Could not connect to the database server. Please check the database server and its configuration.

I almost hate to asks this next question (please excuse my ignorance, I swear to jeebus I have 'normal' intelligence in most other endeavors) but is 'Database Hostname' in the XOOPS installation (where they have 'localhost') the same thing as the 'SQL Server name: ipsqlgXXXXXX.registeredsite.com' that Interland sent me? I place the 'ipsqlgXXX...' in there?

So, if I placed XOOPS into a folder called 'obs2' in my HTML folder on my website (let's call it, 'mywebsite') then the line to change in the mainfile.php file is in the 'location' part. Like this?:

('Location:http://www.mywebsite.com/obs2');

Ok, so I have a shared hosting account with Interland. I have MySQL 4.0.18 and PHP 4.3.2 and XOOPS 2.0.7. I also have a MySQL database that was created by Interland when I got my account. I have the SQL Server name, user name, database name, and password. I also assigned the correct CHMODs for the directories as per the install instructions. But here's the catch since I want to install XOOPS as a test site and not interrupt the website that I already have I placed the contents of the XOOPS HTML folder in a folder I called 'OBS3'inside my server account's HTML folder. But I couldn't connect the database. I did something obviously wrong, but what?

I have found a few other threads on this topic but I wasn't clear on the details as I am new to this.

I have volunteered to build a community-based site for an organization that does not have their on server hosting plan yet. 1)Can I build a test site on my server/hosting plan that I already run my personal site on then transfer the test site to the new server once it is established? 2) And can I build the test site on my server in a subdirectory without disturbing my personal website 3) Finally, is this a "relatively" easy thing to do?

Thanks. I actually know some html (at least enough to feel comfortable doing the basic stuff) but I've volunteered to build a website for a community based org that I belong to and I just want to make sure that the contributors can easily add content. Because some of these people have NO real tech skills of any kind beyond Word and email ya' know (we're talking grandmas in some cases) so a strong WYIWYG editor is probably going to be one of the major deciding factors on which CMS tool I finally choose. You could have a meltdown trying to decide which CMS to choose. XOOPS vs. ezpublish vs. Mambo vs. Mumbojumbo vs. not-so-ezpublish, +or whatever else is out there....

I know there's no WYSIWYG editor with XOOPS built in but is there a decent add-on that I can use until there is one?
