I've got several audio type files I'd like users to access and play from the site.

Preferably by user selection from a small block.

I'd prefer not to use a commercial player with all the download whoopla and junk associated with it.

Any suggestions

Why are you taking this thread off-topic? This thread is about an advanced downloads module - MyDownloadsRC by Catzwolf to be exact. I think that any other requests should belong to a new thread...

Off topic?

Why don't you chill. I been using Xoops, and posting on these boards a while now. (since September 2002)

The PaFileDb is a download and upload utility. It's just not XOOPS "integrated". IT works well and addresses the needs for administering uploads and downloads independently of Xoops. I'll just do a hyperlink to it. The user could care less, whether it's XOOPS or no. MySql for the Downloads will be separated from the XOOPS MySql. This feature alone will save me time when dealing with issues on XOOPS upgrades.

So...I hyperlink to Invision Boards...Noah Classifieds...and others. You might do well to think along the same lines. You may find support issues not to your liking after a few upgrades. Especially with XOOPS custom mods.

THese are public forums, and you aren't the only one interested in this topic. Look at the number of people who are following this thread.

I was merely suggesting and alternative, not specifically to you. Did you see your name on it? If I was desparate for a mod, I sure wouldn't rag on someone that mentioned something that might be a viable workaround. As I recall you did indicate some urgency about a needing a download mod for your site.

I just read that Invision Boards is working on a fully competent content management(portal)addition to the IPB.

Invision, by providing a good open application for editing, has enjoyed a very large number of programmers tweaking their app for several years. Now, IPB is taking the driver's seat implementing a great deal more content within with IPB boards. IPB is introducing a Gallery and some other exciting tools as well.

There is a lot of excitement on IPB boards about the upcoming 2. version of IPB.

The interface for making changes within the IBP is excellent, and pretty simple. You do have to read the documents. It is a great forum tool, and you can still get the software free.

So...exciting things are happening.

Look for XOOPS Brasil modules pak in downloads section of this site. It is one of the mods in the pak.

You'll have to edit the config.php file in the Uploader module or you'll get some surprises after you load it.

I think it's pretty worthless unless you just plan to use it yourself. Actually, most any good FTP program is a quantum leafp above it.

The module you linked looks to be XOOPS 1.0+ stuff.

I installed the uploader module, previously mentioned. That module is an open invitation to havoc as it is. Who in his right mind would give a registered user that kind of permissions on a server.

I'm building a site that is going to provide capacity for up and down loading of large numbers of various kinds of files.

Have you looked at CLICK TO 4IMAGES

You might find a way to do a workaround and it's a very competent software.

Sounds OK to me.

Where do you acquire the module uploader?

I found the Uploader in the multi-pak thing from brazil.

I've got it working, but it's a long way from a finished product you'd want to put into the hands of users.

Just to make sure we're on the same page.

The 2.0.6 version of XOOPS has the module mydownloads, and there is no selector to "Allow User Uploads". The submit screen only shows a URL entry box.

Also, the images used by the users submitting the download cannot be handled without a URL as well.

It would be a nice feature to allow the submitting user to upload a graphic image and the file for download with browse his own PC files and select the files for upload.

I prefer to host files for downloads, because users are annoyed with bad links, permissions, restrictions and other issues. People are constantly changing sites as evidenced right here in our own downloads section. Click a few links in the boxes.

I like to host my own download and associated graphic files. I run virus scans on them immediately and then hold in my ftp. I do not let users directly ftp uploads without great care.

I also would like a little icon added at the bottom of the screen aligned with the present little icons. When the user does a mouseover the little icon a graphic file is shown. I know we can show graphics in download information box, but graphics make the boxes load slower and most users are only interested to see the graphic if they're interested in the file for download.

I used a simple hack in the earlier versions of XOOPS to accomplish the mouseover thing.

Sure would be nice if someone familiar enough with XOOPS mydownloads module would tackle this project.

I'm looking for a download mod that:

allows the uploader to upload a file from his/her HDD as well as from a web location.

provides the regular description box with no graphic visible. When the user does a mouseover an icon, an associated graphic file displays.
