I've got several audio type files I'd like users to access and play from the site.

Preferably by user selection from a small block.

I'd prefer not to use a commercial player with all the download whoopla and junk associated with it.

Any suggestions

What types of file?

I run a radio stream myself - and was struggling to find a complicated way of accessing it via Xoops.... in the end, I cheated and used a PHP include page - and simply used an "<IFRAME>" command in a TinyContent window....

Perhaps not the most tidy solution - but hey, it works!

You could have a nice little selection popup using a custom block which users can use to play music while they surf around your site.

I have one I use for radio, but you can link this to any music file type on your server
