I have XOOPS and newbb but what I want to do is make newbb look more like phpbb. I have searched themes and modules etc...and somewhat modified the one we put up but it always seems "clunky" compared to phpbb! I am sooooooooo new to any of this but learning as I go so be patient if I ask something that may be common sense to others! I just really want a "frilly girly thing "type and no matter what I do it just looks so much "clunkier" than what I get with phpbb but I don't wanna use phpbb unless I have to! I prefer sticking with xoops! Can anyone help PLEASE in plain simple terms please for this old lady! Thanks so much!

Have you checked out this site?
This site has over 300 themes to look at even a phpbb theme.

Re: Getting notifications on new submissions...

I asked this once before, with no answers, so I'm trying again...

Is there any way to get XOOPS to send a notification to a user if a new News Article, Link, Download, etc. submission has been made...? I have been checking my site all the time to see if anything needs approved, but it would be great to be able to get an email sent when something is waiting for an approval...

Thanks in advance...

JH

Dosen't the "Notification Options" take care of that for users? Or what about "Waiting Contents" block for admin?

Re: Login twice

Find this file: mainfile.php
click to edit
find this:

// XOOPS Virtual Path (URL)
// Virtual path to your main XOOPS directory WITHOUT trailing slash
// Example: define('XOOPS_URL', '');
define('XOOPS_URL', 'http://mysite.org');

change it to this:

// XOOPS Virtual Path (URL)
// Virtual path to your main XOOPS directory WITHOUT trailing slash
// Example: define('XOOPS_URL', '');
define('XOOPS_URL', 'http://www.mysite.org');

Notice that the only thing changed is the "www"
You must also change the permission to 744 before you do the above.

Before you do the above you must go:
system admin > preferences > general settings > tick yes next to update module.
Then after you do all of the above change tick no update module.

I'm new to XOOPS and still getting it ready to replace my current site. I have a few questions about the forums:

1) Where can I find the images used by this forum for new posts, i.e. The ones that come with the XOOPS Installation are bulky and don't look good (the XOOPS x).

2) What is the difference between NewBB and CBB? I'm a little confused and not sure which one I'm running.

Thanks in advance.

Check out this link link.
That site is using NewBB 2.0 version 2.1

I'm not sure what's the difference between NewBB and CBB. If it's the stock forum then I think its newbb but I could be wrong. I upgraded to to NewBB which you can find here.

Hi everyone :)
I really need your help, we have set up XOOPS and I love it but I have one problem at the moment: WHen I click on Admin Index it comes up with the following.....

WARNING: File D:/Sites/xoops/www/mainfile.php is writeable by the server.
Please change the permission of this file for security reasons.
in Unix (444), in Win32 (read-only)

Any ideas at all?

Thanks heaps
Alana

Assuming you are using cpanel then click on file manager then click on public_html folder then click on mainfile.php then look to upper right and click on change permissions and change to 444.

It's got a nice minimalist touch, but the greys kind of clash with the great banner you created. Maybe some nice muted browns or tans would blend in better.

I'm not real experienced working with css but I do agree that if the greys were changed to match some colors in the banner it would nicer. I'm still experimenting. Thanks for the advie.
