trabis,

could you write up how you added stopforumspam into Protector?

Personally, I'm still not getting spam registrations using the two step registration and the referrer hacks. I suspect, however, that it might depend on which particular spammers are targeting one's site. I would not be surprised if I started to get spam again in the future.

Anyway, it would be good to have the method on record.

@xgarb, thanks. I feel stupid because I was pretty sure there was something but I failed to check that drop down in permissions.

@MACTEP

I want to consider this for only one forum, which is a members only forum in which members can debate club issues. That forum is being abused by some people. The problem with deleting objectionable posts is that we have full text notifications activated, which means the objectionable message goes out to many people before it could be deleted. BTW, the reason for activating full text notifications is that we used to have an email list, which also was being abused by some people, so we switched to forums. In order to make that switch more palatable we allowed the full text notifications, so that members can see what is being posted and log on to the web site if they want to reply.

I recognize that there are advantages in only sending a notification, without full text, but one thing at a time when you are dealing with dues-paying club members.

Thanks for the help.

Barry

Is there any way in CBB to require pre-approval of a message before it appears on the forums?

We have had a problem with members, who do normally have access to our member=only forums, posting inappropriate messages, accusing other members of various misdeeds, etc.

We'd like the forum moderator to have to approve the message before it appears.

As I've explained in a different thread, using a two step registration, with some required fields in the second, and saving only after the second step is completed, has essentially blocked these spam registrations on my site.

I would like to add to the notification email that the admin gets when someone new registers on our site. Specifically, I would like to add the City and State of the registrant so that we can invite the person to meetings of our regional clubs.

I have set things up such that city and state are required fields on registration form. They are stored in the tables for the profile module.

I know which message would have to be edited. Is there some way I can insert codes into the notification message such that the city and state are automatically entered? That would save us having to look up the registrant's information.

As I've indicated previously, the two step registration process worked for me. I was getting hammered with spam registrations but haven't had any since going to the two step process. It is important not to save step 1, save only after step 2. Also have a couple of fields in step 2 that are required.

Try it. It will probably work for you.

I'd like to be able to customize the message sent out when new user accounts are activated. I'm using Xoops 2.4.4 at present and can't find any "standard" way of doing this. I think it would be a nice feature to be able to customize the message. Can anyone suggest a way that I could do this in 2.4.4, presumably using a hack of some kind.

Edit: actually I found the answer by hunting around. The message is under Mail in the Languages/English folder. I can modify that.

ghia,

once again, thanks. That seems to be it. One more favor. I am using a modified zen-ocean theme. Do you know how I can activate the sig feature in that theme? What is the smarty variable to use and where should I add it?

I appreciate your help.

I am using Xoops 2.4.4. I have just been informed that, even when users have "Always show signature" checked, the sig does not appear in a newbb forum message (i.e. cbb). Allow signatures is checked "Yes" for each forum.

Should cbb respect that setting chosen by a user. If so, any ideas why it's not working for me?

I am using 2.4.4 at the moment. Someone more familiar with the differences between that and 2.4.1 will have to comment.

I assume that you created the first name and last name fields and made them required.

See this image for how my First Name field is set up and this one for the registration steps.
