Trademark issues mainly. But, there could be some legal issues with offering a directory listing service online. I'm not aware of other countries policies regarding this type of service but it's always good to check first.

Xoops allows you to change the name of the application to whatever your area will allow. I think the most important thing to keep in mind here is the functionality your trying to achieve. You want a directory listing app that will help you generate $$$ and do so with little effort.

Everyone using these apps should be aware of the legal issues in their area before installing them.

I've implemented quite a few new features for xdirectory that haven't been released.

The version I'm using has:

-E-commerce (paypal only) for a monthly subscription or a one year subscription where you get one month free.
-Multiple categories
-Coupons
-Alphabetical Listings
-Premium Listings with start and expiration dates(premium listings can be defined for each category the listing appears in)
-Ratings now have comments
-e-Mail form
-Malls
-WiFi Hotspots
-modify listing is now restricted to the owner of the listing. (I plan to make two modify pages; one where anyone can submit changes and it is approved or not approved by the administrator and two where the owner can submit their changes in real time.)

This version will be released eventually for a fee. I haven't come up with a price yet but was thinking @ $99 - USD.

I welcome any comments.

I think it's fair to say that if you can dream it, XOOPS can fit it.

with that in mind...HTML is very linear (left to right, top to bottom) The only way to get away from that is by using graphics/images to create the illusion of non-conforming lines but doing so will limit your ability to take advantage of some of XOOPS dynamic features. example: navigation.

Other than that, you can tell XOOPS to place the blocks whereever you want them. You can also change the blocks themselves to fit your design. It may take a little more work but it is possible.

if you provide a sample link of what you are trying to accomplish XOOPS can do it. Unless of course you want a different look and feel on every page of your site which isn't very user friendly anyway.

There are plenty of folks here in the forums that can help you create a theme(for a fee) based on your vision of a "perfect website design".

Hope this helps,

I'm trying to take the expiration date function from the news module and incorporate it into xdirectory. But I'm having difficulties locating all the necessary code to perform the function of converting the date from "month, day, year, minute, second" into the universal date string that XOOPS uses.

Has anyone done this with another module?

If so, I would appreciate some pointers.

Thank you,

The real estate module I have running on my site is a mod of xDirectory. I created it because:

1) I was using open-realty but doing a manual data dump from the MLS was imposible because of the differences in DB structure. I needed all the information to be linear making it very easy to update/populate my database with MLS data.

2) I needed specific information and functionality for the area I'm in and Open-Realty couldn't do what I needed.

I would like to share what I have but the admin area is not complete and requires the webmaster to modify the DB from PHPMyAdmin instead of a nice web interface.

There is a hack that currently exists for this located here:

https://xoops.org/modules/mydownloads/viewcat.php?cid=28&min=10&orderby=titleA&show=10

If you can figure out how it works than you can apply it to every module on your site. I've done it for my site and it's been working beautifully to get me listed higher on the SE's

Good luck,

Nicely done! I've been looking at that file like a deer in the headlights since Monday trying to figure out what was missing.

I should've posted this question sooner.

Thanks Venezia

Anyone know how to organize the categories and sub categories in a drop down menu in alphabetical order?

it looks like it organizes the parent categories in alphabetical order but the sub categories are not.

Any help would be appreciated.
