Hiya,

I've just had to move my XOOPS sites but I'm just getting blank screens (2 sites done so far)

I've changed the mainfile.php, made sure cleaned out cache and templates_c, made sure permissions set right again, and copied exact dump of DB over, however I had to change DB name and password, although shouldn't make a difference - all tables etc. are the same.

Not really sure where to look next!

Steve

EDIT: Erm, I guess if I get the file permissions right it would help. Only worked it out when transferred over the third site which works on an older 2.0.x version and showed the error messages.

Right, *definitely* time to go to bed now

Well I've decided to roll my own as my host has been down now practically all weekend and most of today :(

Exim and teapop set up now so will write a few features like adding mail addresses, adding virtual servers, etc. and post the results back here when done - I'm sure a few people will find it useful.

tata for now,

Steve

XOOPS gives you a lot of functionality to start with so you don't have to write it yourself.

As it's all integrated, you don't have to find seperate pieces of software for each bit, and you can make your site look the same throughout by using 'themes'.

So, you can either write your html and your own CMS if you need to and use a forum software, or you can choose to use XOOPS which gives you a lot more stuff you can use later on, plus build your own modules, or use other modules people have written to extend functionality. Try to look at it as a framework for database-driven websites.

HTH

Hi,

Thanks for the link, but I wouldn't host on Windows :)

BSD all the way!

Thanks for the replies!

Cpanel/Ensim/etc. all cost dollar :(

I guess the main functions I'd like people to have access to are adding and removing pop email accounts, seeing how much disk space they have used, and webstats, the latter of which should be easy to plug in.

It's OK setting up email accounts manually myself for people, but would be better to give them the control, less calling me all the time :)

Hi,

My current hosts are poo so I'm thinking of moving back in-house until I can afford decent hosting (rackspace bsd hopefully). The problem I have is I will lose Cpanel and WHM.

I was wondering whether there were any modules in this area. I'm finding it hard to find an open source control panel - http://webcp.can-host.com is the only one I can find. Maybe I'm not searching well enough but there seems to be a gap in the open source world for a decent control panel.

My ex-ISP friend's written a control panel so will be helping me write one and has suggested that it would be good to do it in separate modules - one for FTP, one for mail, etc.

So, if anyone knows of any existing stuff I can use, or is interested in helping to do this then let me know :)

Cheers,

Steve

Hello,

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but how can I enable XOOPS so people can chat in Chinese Mandarin on the newbb forums?

I'm just doing a site for an ethnic foor supplier here in the uk, www.supamax.co.uk and he said that most of the chat will be in their home language but I'm not sure how to set this up. I know you can use different language files for the actual XOOPS content, but that's the next stage...

Thanks,

Steve

Thanks for the reply Mithrandir.

I've been playing around with 7dana-clean so it's making more sense now. I think the new site will look cool if I take the good bits from the original site plus the good bits from XOOPS .

Now I understand a bit more I'm not as scared :0)

Cheers,

Steve

Ah, cheers - that's a great site! Was just asking as I'm not really a CSS and HTML expert - I stick to creating apps.

Thanks for the reply - wasn't moaning about response time, just worried that it was going to be impossible to do in XOOPS. I'm still waiting for a reply from a support question about my P900 from SonyEricsson which I asked over a week ago, and those guys get paid!

Thanks again,

Steve

Now I'm thinking either it is going to be an impossible task to write a suitable theme, or I phrased my question in the wrong way making people think I was asking them to do my work for me - hopefully not, wasn't supposed to sound that way!

Steve
