Not sure what your budget is but you may want to consider the aMember module (www.amember.com). I am seriously considering it for my site; I have two memberships, one free and one pay. We will be providing less options to the 'free' users and this product sounds like it can do that (by prohibiting access to certain directories, e'g' the PM 'module' directory). Give it a look....

Disclaimer: I dont work for them or get anything from them :)

ROTFL! I just started with XOOPS a few weeks ago for a new site (I am a newbie!, sort of).

I downloaded the latest MySql, PHP, IIS (Windows Web Server), XOOPS 2.2.3a and a handfull of modules. After an agonizing period of several sleepless nights trying to get everything to work 'together', I became frustrated. As I diagnosed issues, I noticed the recommendations were similiar to "use this version" or "that" version. After it was over, I am on XOOPS 2.0.13.2 (I stayed with the latest other tools). I can say that almost all the modules I use (MyAlbum, iContent, Xoopspoll, MyDownload, WebLinks).

If it were me, I'd stay on 2.0.13.2 until ALL the modules YOU NEED are ready to go, otherwise you'll be hacking the modules just to get them to work, which is time consuming.

Dont spend you sleepless nights repeating what I did

Kurt

Conditional code in HTML? (Need to Add Admin Menu in Custom Block)

I've created my own user and content menus (using iContent) and now at the last step of adding the Admiistration menu for those who are permissioned.

However when I add the code in my custom block:

<{if $xoops_isadmin}>
<a href="<{$xoops_url}>/admin.php"><{$block.lang_adminmenu}></a>
<{/if}>

It doesnt render as the standard menus do. When editing my custom block should I chose something other than HTML? If I choose PHP, can I accomplish the same thing?

Regards,
Kurt

Thanks, however the problem is the within the Admin section for XoopsPoll there isnt anywhere to change the permissions...that is the problem.

I have searched through all the Admin section looking for where to change it. I am wondering if my install is bad or something else (I'm using php 5.0.5; XOOPS 2.0.13.2).

The option/link is literally missing

I have installed XOOPS 2.0.13.2 and it has the polls module (xoopspoll) in it. When configuring it, I notice there wasnt a way to tell it what groups (Anonymous, Registered, etc) can add an item. Isnt there a configuration option for that? I cant find anything in the Admin menus or Polls-Admin menu to allow me to set that permission.

Is this a problem with this module? Anyone else see this?

I've uninstalled, reinstalled and updated...basically there isnt any link to change permissions...

I downgraded to 2.0.13.2 and *almost* all modules are working. I noticed you used Weblinks 0.96; I was on 0.93. The problem I have with Weblinks is creating categories. I get the following error:

PHP Fatal errorOnly variables can be passed by reference in c:Inetpubwwwroothtmlmodulesweblinksclassxoops_form_extend.php on line 486

So I am unable to create categories :( Any ideas?

How about doing a local setup of your website and just doing the downgrade to test how it goes for you. If it gets your modules going for you it will be much faster than waiting for these modules in a version compatible with 2.2.3a

That's exactly what I am doing :) I have found very few modules that completely work with 2.2.3a. Some install but have errors (some I have solved e.g. MyAlbum; most havent e.g. Content, CJay Content IE5.5), some dont work at all (XoopsPoll).

I have found quite a few issue with installing various modules with 2.2.X, namely XoopsPoll, Content, SNX_Weather, BMSurvey.

So I am thinking of downgrading XOOPS from 2.2.3a to 2.0.X.

Questions:
(1) Is this advisable? Easy? Error prone?
(2) I noticed the 2.2.3a release notes say "many bugs" were fixed. Is it worthwhile to downgrade?
(3) Do module developers not upgrade these when appropriate? Can they be done by people other than the original author?

Thanks,
Kurt
