I live in Eastern US and I was on his site for about an hour today with no problems.

Good to see the site back!

Dr Z,

Just thought you'd like to know that your site is not displaying properly in GRE based browsers. The text content is overlapping and the main body is left of center and lower than displayed in IE.

Tested Browsers:
Mozilla 1.7
Netscape 7.1
Firefox 0.9.2

Your site displays perfectly in Internet Explorer 6, but with the recent security vulnerabilities found in that browser [that antivirus software and firewalls cannot stop], many people are running away from IE as fast as they can.

Unless you want to run the risk of alienating potential visitors, I'd recommend taking a look at your html/css coding and standardize it.

Just a suggestion.

Best Regards,

JM

You may want to take a look at the XOOPS For Dummies e-book published by JackJ. I'm pretty sure he has a link or two there as well as covers some of the basics of mod'ing templates.

Link:
https://xoops.org/modules/news/article.php?storyid=1519

If you have any familiarity at all with html and CSS, my suggestion would be to open up the theme.html file in an editor [text or something like Dreamweaver] and take a look at the code and start tinkering. The core code of the theme.html file is actually pretty simple. The CSS in the file style.css isn't too difficult either.

Important note: You may want to use a program like XSAS or easyphp to setup a local web server for your tinkering, lest you mess up your production site.

If you need a primer on how to get started with coding, I highly recommendhttp://www.w3schools.com/.

Best of luck!

Have you tried a default install of 2.0.7?

As I mentioned before, I have four sites that currently run 2.0.6 and I cannot reproduce this error. I strongly recommend that you take advantage of the offer of mirroring your site to rule out server configuration. I'm sure you're quite competent at what you do, but even the best overlook things sometimes.

You may want to submit your modifications to the Devs to make sure they do not pose a security risk. Nobody knows XOOPS better than the people that made it.

Food for thought.....
The beauty of open source is that many eyes are searching for the needle in the hay stack. Even though you may have looked at an area 10 times and saw nothing, the other people who are looking may look in the same area and find the needle the first time.

If you share you files with those who made Xoops, you may find that your problem will be solved more efficiently.

Perhaps you could tell us what modifications you have made to the XOOPS core files. If you are concerned about someone capitalizing on a vulnerability, you could PM your mods to a XOOPS Dev.

IMHO, no CMS is 100% secure, but out the four sites I manage, not one of them is exibiting this problem. Of course, I haven't tampered with the XOOPS core files either. I'm willing to wager that your problem resides in your modifications, not Xoops.

However, unless you share the details of your mods with the XOOPS Devs and try the suggestion of using someone's mirror, there's not much else that can be done.

BTW... Shared hosting for a University?!? I attend college at WVU-P [pretty small campus] and even we have our own Web and DNS servers. If you're really concerned about security, shared hosting is not the most secure route to go. Talk to your Network Admin and see if they can set you up with a secure server. It only takes a little bit and it could be the solution to your problem. Just a suggestion.

Excellent work. Loads at light speed in Firefox on 768KBps DSL.

The only thing I noticed is that your XOOPS images (print, email, downloads, weblinks, etc.) look a little rough around the edges. You may want to touch them up or make your own.

Other than that... Sweet Theme!

Xoops and XOSC do not share user tables or session ids at this point. In other words, there is not single logon method for both. There may or may not be plans to change this down the road, but for now, this is how it is.

I've heard of people hiring php programmers to get around this, but the best of my knowledge, there is no mod/hack publically available at this time.

Yes, the MCSE is very difficult and very expensive. I don't have the exact figures off the top of my head, but it is quite a bit more than the A+. I'm getting ready to start semester 3 of my MCSE curriculum. A friend of mine took his MCSE last semester and got through, but he said it was even harder than the CCNA.

As far as software goes.... CompTIA just changed their tests last fall, so if your software is older than that, it's pretty well useless. The software I purchased was before the change, so it's not much use to anyone.

Best thing I can tell you on funding... a) work as much as you can at that good paying job and get some student loans. The pay increases you will get with each cert you obtain will more than justify the expense.

Transcender A+CoreCert 3.0 Study prep software - $119
Transcender A+OS-Cert 3.0 Study prep software - $119
A+CoreCert 3.0 Test Voucher - $145
A+OS-Cert 3.0 Test Voucher - $145
-------------------------------------------------------
Total if purchased individually $528
Total if purchased through getcertified4less.com as a bundle $290

Sorry I wasn't very clear about that.

You may find the vouchers for less somewhere else, but $290 for the vouchers and transcender is a heck of a good deal. The transcender software is excellent. When I went for my cert, I practice for about 5hrs/wk for a month with transcender and breezed my A+ exams.

Scores:
22/30 - Hardware
21/30 - Software

The test is adaptive. You must complete a minimum of 20 questions to pass. Depending on your answers, you can be asked up to a maximum of 30 questions. The closer to 20 you are, the better you did.

You could try Googling "A+ Test Prep". When I was getting prepared for my A+ I tried to find such resources. There are a few places out there that offer sample questions, but the quality of some is questionable.

If you really want to get ready for your cert, I suggest you go tohttp://getcertified4less.com/ and get one of their voucher bundles that includes test prep materials. There prices on voucher bundles with test prep materials is lower than anywhere else I've found.

Here's the package I got:
A+ Transcender Cert Pack - Pro
Transcender cert pack includes:
- A+CoreCert 3.0 (240 questions ) OR A+OS-Cert 3.0 ( 240 questions ) download from Transcender.com (Retail $119 each)
- One A+ test vouchers (Retail $145)

Their Price: $145.00

Combined, you're looking at $290 for the vouchers and the software. That's about the same as the vouchers alone just about anywhere else. You save $240.

Just a suggestion.
