well, Im no webmaster....and its much better than mine right now....but when I viewed your site...the first thing I thought was..."Information OVERLOAD".

The thing I had to learn when I started using xoops, was, Just becuase you have it, does not mean you have to use it.

If you want to really display that much information at once, at least try to break up the flow and define actual sections using different shades of your main color scheme or something. Just one n00bs opionion...

had teh same problem with a flash clock mod I tried putting in. I didn't spend much time trying to fix it.

I don't know to much, but your links are messed up. the param name movie value links are including teh " in the link. Maybe that is messing things up.

I installed 2.0.6 from my hosting provider. I then uploaded the core 2.0.7 files. (You can find it in the download section)

make sure to upload the contents of each directory into the same directory on the server. After upload, go to the url of your site, and the install process will be initiated. It even checks to make sure you have the correct permissinos set on all your folders. It was pretty easy for me and Im a real novice user, and have next to none programing expertise. If I could do it, anyone can.

Document Manager Installation And Usage Guide -aka: DMS

I couldn't find much info on this wonderful mod so I figured we could start a thread on installing and making it work. Although mod installation is common sense for a lot of ya'll, it can be a bit intimidating for us new users.

Download DMS from here:

Installation
Uncompress the tar file using an application that can read "tar" files. Winrar is a great app for this. WinZip will not work.

After uncompressing, copy the "dms" folder to /xoopsinstallation/modules.

Next, select the Administration Menu | System Admin | Modules. At the bottom of this page, you'll see the DMS module. Select the install button to add the module to your installation.

Configuring DMS
Select the DMS module for your admin | modules page and the following menu items appear:

Document Properties - I have no idea what this is.
Document Repository - used to configure storage path on your server.
Document Templates - I have no idea what this is.
Full Text Search - may be broken atm
Interface Settings - used to give the DMS module a title.

The most common problem I see posted is not being able to upload a file.
This is caused by at least two issues:
- The folder path is incorrect.
Remember to use the full path of your server. Such has: /home/user/public_html/xoops/doc_upload.

- Incorrect Permissions on the upload director. The directory must be set to 775 in order to upload to it.

I hope all this is right, please correct me if I said anythign wrong. Im going to play with it some more and see what I can find out.

Im new too, so perhaps someone can give you a better answer.
In teh System Admin | Preferences | General Settings and , you can set the Module for your start page.
It sounds like you have set that up already.

If you want to show more content on the pages...
Select Admin | Blocks. This will bring up the Blocks Administration page.

From here, you can see each block that is available to any user group. Just find the block you want to see, change it to be "visable" and select a location for that block to appear.

I hope that helps....

Hello, first, let me just say thanks to those that have helped me so far. I was a little worried about using XOOPS since its new, and does not have as large of a community as some of the other php content managment sites that I've tested. Im loving it so far.

Now, for my problem. Im sure its a "right in front of your face thing", but I've been trying to figure it out all day.

On my top page, the one you see when you log in. I have the "news" showing. Its set from my Preferences tab has the default page. I also want to show (for example) recent forum postings or whatever, the problem is that anything I put in the center, takes a formost postion on teh top of the page. I want my news to stay at teh top, and have everythign else go below it. No matter what I set the "weight" to, they still pop to the very top.

I can't just remove the default start page preference, and have the News page has my top block because then the full news story is not seen.

Any ideas are appreciated and thanks in advance.

-Ryan

On your admin page, select Preferences, then Modules.
First, make sure this Module is Active.

next, back on the preferences page, select Blocks, then the news Block. Make is visiable on all, or on the top page. You can do this from teh "edit" link.

woohooo...it worked! Thank you. That is so much easier on the ole eyeballs.

Just one little prob though. After I updated, I lost the connection to all the forum images. They are all littel red "x's" now.

I looked for a way to fix it, but I have no idea what that little snipet did.

Ryan
