As always, thanks a bunch.

I can't put them on a LAN because this is something for them to do from home.

It seems that the Yogurt module isn't good to go for 2.3.1 yet?

Lots to install and test now.

You are absolutely right.

Kids will play in traffic if you don't provide a safe and fun playground. Then as they learn more about life, they are better equipped to cross the road safely.

It's not about fooling them, it is about educating them in a safe environment before they are at an age where they are venturing out unsupervised.

The main focus is for a group of kids who are between 6 and 9 and have no messaging or texting or social networking experience yet.

I am assembling some XOOPS sites using 2.3.1 for the purpose of introducing some kids to ways to use the Internet other than gaming and surfing. The older kids will be webmasters of their own XOOPS sites and so learn a little about site creation and maintenance.

The idea is to provide a completely secure social and learning environment for them and their friends by allowing parents to hold the reigns on membership. Ages range from 7 to 13 currently.

I am looking for ideas of modules that will be easy for them to use and understand and perhaps entertaining.

I have the XOOPS clock and calculator already. They seem good and serve the purpose I have in mind.

I tried a puzzle module but it is a no-go with 2.3.1.

The idea is to have the sites completely self-contained, so there is no interaction directly with other messaging or Facebook type sites so control of their personal information is ensured.

How to verify the identity of new members?

I have a site that is restricted to employees of specific member organizations only. The members who receive the registration notifications need a way to verify that the person applying for membership meets the criteria.

My first thought was to edit the content of the email that is sent to the site administrators to include more information from the registration form but that has not worked so well. See this topic.

I'm wondering if there is anther way to accomplish this, perhaps by somehow limiting the possible email addresses by domain?

The administrators will not want to be taking the time to log in and check profiles if that can be avoided.

Ideas welcome.

I'm using 2.3.1.

Thanks.

I deleted all files in the templates_c folder in the root directory then updated the system and user profile modules once again.

Result is the same. Notification email has the proper username and email used at registration but the rest just shows up as the field names, not the data that was entered by the new user.

I have figured out that the file that needs to be edited is in fact language/english/mail_template/adminactivate.tpl, not the one under the profile module.

I still find that the mail is not picking up the information. Does the information entered by a new user get stored somewhere temporarily until activation is complete?

The mail looks like this:

Hello mysite,

A new user test (test@mysite.ca) has just registered an account at mysite.
The new user test entered the following information:
Occupation: {USER_OCC}
Extra Info: {BIO}
Second e-mail: {email2}
Relationship: {Relationship}
Birthday: {birthdate}
Address: {street_address}, {municipality}, {user_from} {postalcode}

Clicking on the link below will activate the account of this user:

Only the username and the email are being picked up and included in the mail.

I know someone is smiling at my question, so come on, throw me a bone here...

There are a few problems mentioned in the Modules not working with 2.3 topic.

Perhaps there is a post there that can assist.

Is there a fix for this? I updated the system module again and now find that I can manually enter a date and it seems to be holding. I cannot use the calendar feature to pick a date that is prior to January 1, 2000.

What file controls the calendar that pops up? Maybe I just need to replace it?

Instructions for the checksum files are in the News Article. Look at the Files Integrity Check.
