Good point and vey well spotted. I'm glad you're both awake and passed my test!

D'oh! I should learn to read these things properly before I open my mouth!

Back to the drawing board...

Would we do anything other than go easy on you? I think the idea is that we're here to help... not slag eachother off!

I have to agree with you with regards to the green being hard on your eyes. I think the main reason for this is that it's presented against a black background. Personally, I'm not a great fan of dark backgrounds, and think that the green (used perhaps slightly more moderately) would work better against a lighter background.

If you tone down the amount of green used, it will also allow you to use a few more colours, which would help brighten the site up a bit. I can see what you're trying to do with the theme, green being a military colour and all, but I think maybe you could do something around the red whites and blues from the flags of Canada and the US?

That said, I think you've done a very good job on putting together a first site which is consistent in design and easitly navigated. My only major criticism would be the speed of the site - I don't know if I just caught it at a bad time, but it seemed to take forever to generate a page.

I have disabled user comments on my site, and have discovered that the news_article.html file still shows the word "comments?" after the "read more... [xxx bytes more]" at the bottom.

It appears that the "Comments?" string is an extension of the $story.readmore array and I wondered if there was any way to seperate it so that ONLY "Read more..." was displayed in a news artlicle summary.

Cheers!

Are you updating the default templates, or have you generated a new set? Any changes you make to the default templates won't be saved, which might explain the problem. If this is the cast then you'll need to generate a new set and make chages to them instead.

Hi!

I was wondering if anybody was aware of Noah's Classifieds (http://classifieds.phpoutsourcing.com) and whether or not it would be possible to incorporate this as a XOOPS module.

Although I'm sure there are other classifieds mods available for XOOPS already, Noah's has complete flexibility over what types of fields can be entered and searched under different categories.

For example, if running a section on books, you could have users searching under "author" or "genre" for a specific book, instead of just having "Item", "Description" and "Price".

I'd also be interested to know if it would be possible to incorporate an e-commerce funtion, so that users could be charged a small fee for placing indiviual adverts - could be switched on and off by the admin, of course.

If anybody feels like they can, and want, to take the project on, I'm happy to donate some cash to the development - I'm sure it would benefit the whole XOOPS community!

Why do so many more people use PHP-Nuke and PostNuke? Because, in my opinion, these people have scant regard for quality and a lack of imagination and creativity. Sure, the "Nukes" have a lot of support. They have a huge number of modules available. But which of these are of any use?

If you look at the vast majority of PHP-Nuke and PostNuke sites, they are little more than sites promoting new modules and themes for the original CMS. What use is a CMS that isn't used in a real world application? Why create a CMS for which the major use is to promote that same CMS?

I have chosen to use XOOPS for my upcoming site for a number of reasons. Firstly, I find the interface by far the most user-friendly and attractive I've come across. Secondly, the modules and blocks created for XOOPS actually carry a real-world application. Thirdly, it is incredibly easy to customize through a very well designed templating system. Fourth, it is the real power in simplicity. Why over complicate matters? Most portal sites consist of some news, a few articles and the odd forum... why do PHP-Nuke and Post-Nuke supply around 50 modules in the core package to do this job?

Enough ranting... I'm preaching to the converted!
