youttube is in the millions operational..so if you think you can.. by all means.
But of course, I say go for it. And I definately understand the desire to host the video yourself rather than handing it over to another company.

But from what I've read the smartmedia module should have been just fine.

However I understand what you mean by users having a hard time. IT has to be really simple for people to bother with it. But dont give up on the modules..powers...yet.

You might be able to simplify the submission process, yourself by modifying the user submit templates or even creating a new template block for them to use. And sort of simplifying it that way.

I had to do that for an image gallery once that I thought was super easy but apparently wasnt. Also plan on doing that with my favoreite calendar..
It makes a big differance when you can or take the time to create a registerd member interface..that is less complex than the admins/moderators might be.

Good luck-
will follow with interest..

Why not just use youtube?

-ie: how about a module that simply imports the youtube video, much like myspace does? There may be something like that...

Video bandwidth can be rather expensive, which is another reason I suggest this as well.

"News can't accept different templates for different categories"

-Ahhhh
Hey thats interesting, idea.
If we were able to assign a .class or #ID to topics or something we would be able to control their look in style sheet.

For instance if you create a new category-
A new id or class gets associated with it.

-.cat1, .cat2
etc.

Then, if you want to change their look...
hmmmmmm...

maybe?

What is it about protector that does this?

I have been long considering using protector but I have been concerned for long time that many people would not be able to access the site.

It's kinda like when you have norton set up. ya know? too much trouble sometimes.

But if there is a particular issue in Protector that this most associates with..perhaps we can nab it.

For instance, I dont know if this relates...
But I know someone who owns an ISP as well. And the got banned from google adsense because the majority of their clients are behind a firewall with a limited IP range.

Google assumed that it was like the same 4 people clicking ...when in fact there may have been hundreds of different users.

I wonder if something like that in protector? Associating you Ip ..

oh..wait lost my train of thought!

p.s Ive been banned here before too once!
I Seem to recall like having twenty different pages open at once when trying to tackle a problem!

Thats why those admin emails are handy to know...

Can you provide more details about the structure of what you you are trying to clear? Are you floating left mostly within a container? How much is pure css and how much is tables...(they fuss with eachother so their relationship is unique)

Let me brainstorm with you....
-Have you tried applying the clear property to the footer container?
-Check to see your div containers are floating and where,
-display:Inline is also a common IE fix for floated elements, you might experiment with that on some major elements.
-moving the footer out of the main container with same width and margin as container would work on last resort.

Try and validate as much of the code as possible. Run a test on it..you may get a lots of errors...but there might be one you can easily fix that will solve the problem.

Does it display right in firefox? Usually if it displays right in firefox and not IE7 its because something with regard to specificity was over looked, IE still need to be told exactly what to do. Overlapping text can mean also that you may have set a height?

-Hard to help with out more details. have a link or something?

Good luck Im sure youll get it resolved soon.

uhm hi paulizaz.Resized Image
I think you misunderstood my actual sincerity, because of some of the bitterness of late.

I was just wondering why duplicate the news module?
When if you are looking to target something say topics...you simply create a new topic?

If its a different feature entirely, such as an editorial column or a review module with different features...then..you try one of those I suppose.

I did NOT mean to sound antagonistic, really, rather just trying to save the poor fella some uneeded work.( And wondering)

Quote:
..why do you question something to be so strange you do yourself?

You misunderstand, I dont have a "clone" of the 'news' module it's quite a robust module, especially the latest which we haven't updated on our hosted site but played with locally.

Im just asking myself, and the community, should I(we) be cloning the news module? "Am I Doing things the hard way"
What are the benefits and disadvantages of taking such an action? Is it block management?etc.

Im genuinely interested in both perspectives, mainly because over time our site has grown exponentially. So its hard to keep up ya know? Also keeping an eye out for solutions..there are so many.

Sorry perhaps should have been another topic but I thought it was related.

Sounds like I should just do some more experimentation like david-away has done. It'd be great if we mixed the most requested features into the main news module..hmm tag support...

-cheerz

Hi, Im just curious, because maybe I dont understand.

-Why would you want to clone a news module?

Cant you create various topics with subtopics in the one news module? Aren't there topic blocks you can pull from each topic and various spotlight features available?

Do you plan on having a very large site with completely different subject topics (why not just two different sites then?)

I'm sincerely asking, I reason for instance, you may want to use a news module and a simple article or soapbox module in addition..but 2 news modules?

What would be the advantage of this pursuit?
Im fianlly asking because Ive never understood why so many different news/article modules came out (dont get me wrong we currently use 3 different great ones too). But each has a distinguishable trait. ie: soapbox we use for columns...News we use for well.. news...

Thanks.

UPDATE
ohhhhh-upon visiting your site..I see you have the workings of a rather large news portal? Yes go with davids suggestion as easy solution.

But still curious as too some advantages..

hmmm Never thought about that.
Did you have a long censor list?
We have one but...its not all that big of a list.

In other words do you think simply enabling it has an effect? Or do you think it was the length of the censor list?\

-thanks for sharing
