I wish Katim all the best. Btw, maybe XOOPS has to create two sub forums, one for leaving members, one for new members. We could learn from the reasons why people leave xoops, or join.

An interesting idea, provided people answered honestly. As far as people joining Xoops, many will try it and see if it meet their needs before putting on a production site.

IMHO, The XOOPS CMS is not best tool for every situation. I have a number of tools that I use for various needs, including, but not limited to XOOPS cms, Wordpress, Bluefish, Quanta plus and even Microsoft's Front Page.

I chose what I am going to use based on what I am to accomplish.

Katim is switching to Joomla to meet his needs. I don't have a problem with that, as Joomla may offer options that XOOPS doesn't, and maybe shouldn't offer. I wish Katim well.

This thread is a mixed blessing. What was wrong that made katim110 switch?

It appeared that there was plenty of community support.

I have downloaded and am going through XosC .73 beta module.

A lot of hard work went into this module, and in return, I am going through it. So far it appears to be a good module. However I haven't gone through everything yet.

You have removed the spam from your website. Great! Now what?

The spammer is still out there, selling 'stuff' through their web site. They are spamming your e-mail, they will spam websites, they will continue to spam until they stop making $$$.

I do not want to just stop them, I want them to stop trying.

I have been working with module, and it looks great.

You might have the basis for project I have been tinkering with.

Can this module be modified to handle the sale of farm equipment. like tractors, plows, disc (not the CD/DVD type) etc. ?

Spam is a problem. It is the result Internet criminals, yes, I said criminals, it is not just spam bots out there, there are real flesh and blood people scamming and stealing real money. Time to put these criminals where they belong.

Here is another tool to add to your spam arsenal.

I have been working with Knujon & Coldrain Technologies to come up with a way to report the spam that you are getting in your forums and blogs to them. Why?

Knujon focuses on the sites that spammers use to peddle their wares. So far, they has removed more than 30,000 sites affiliated with spammers. How will this stop spammers? If they can't sell their products, there's no point in spam.

Knujon collects spam analyzes it then work with law enforcement to shut down criminal's web sites.

If you are using CBB 3.08 or can e-mail a post directly out of the forum or blog, e-mail the post to forumjunk@coldrain.net (then delete it)There is no need to for IP Address or comments. They use many e-mail and posts to come up with a profile they can hand over to good guys.

This is not a silver bullet by any means, however, it is a great little tool you can use to help them, help us.

I agree with statement. That is what this discussion is about. to see if it will create more problems than it solves.

Who gets the job of going through a 50,000 member database and cull for persons using duplicate accounts -- or do you already have in mind who the multiple user accounts you are going to delete.

Since you brought it up, are you doing anything the next few weeks? (just kidding)
I really haven't gotten that far yet. Right now I am seeing if the community would support such a measure

I have over 500 email addresses I could use and a phone book to pick names from -- if so inclined. How do you propose to enforce such a stupid regulation, and for what purpose.

BS

It would mainly be on the honor system. However we could follow the rule of other sites, and say if you are found to have more than one, all of the known accounts will be deleted.
