We're still looking... if anyone wants to help out with this project. In a nutshell its a financial community site... myspace meets a financial website

If you have some sparetime between projects or are interested in earning some extra money on the side. We're looking for someone to update all the components on our RedHat Enterprise Linux AS 4.0 box (get the latest versions of php, mysql, zend, etc etc installed), improve the look and feel (tie up loose ends on the design we have now + tweak and improve and come up with a new alternative design) and get all the modules working and looking good within the design.

We'd like to get it going so the home page looks good and displays tid bits from all over the site and generally is set up so we can start entering data and news.

It's all pretty easy stuff at first, and we'd like to get the site live ASAP and then start working on some ideas we have for modules.

There just wasnt a very good response on XOOPSlance

But essentially we'll look to make a simple site currently then add a few modules later. No need to take it in one big bite.

We're looking for a XOOPS developer to take what we started and clean it up, possibly make some improvements on UI or look and feel, and generally tighten up everything so we can get this live.

Essentially its a financial community, so its message boards, blogs, news and a wiki.

Currently it's not a lot of work. But once it goes live we'd liek the same person to work on some unique modules.

www.sluse.com

We can change look and feel and the theme if there's a better suggestion. Feel free to contact me via email @ wallstarb@financialchat.com with a small proposal and an estimate. We would like to get this started ASAP.

If there are any questions I can address them on this thread so others can see them (most likely if it wasnt clear to you its not clear to someone else)

So who's incharge of this part of the core? The image manager is built in... maybe it should be modularized (along with the banners)

I'm not an expert, but it seems that this is used by nearly every componet/module that allows a posting, and to have it not work correctly seems like a MAJOR issue that needs addressing.

The image manager is the weakest and honestly least professional part of the XOOPS core that I've seen. We've had similar problems using the databse to store pics as a BLOB (so I know its not a folders permission thing)

We can upload pics if we use the screens for XOOPS administration. But if we try to upload like a user would while making a post (from the editors) then we see the same behavior, the picture isn't really uploaded and you get that red X where the image is supposed to be.

The image manager needs to get a facelift and a MAJOR overhaul, so it doesn't look like and work so poorly. Or make the image manager an addin so others can make one thats professional and easy to use.

We are seeing a problem where mails (registration notices etc) are not making it out to users with email addresses that are not in the domain of the server we are setting up. For instance our site is www.sluse.com and if I create a new user with an email @sluse.com it will send the email, but if its another address it doesnt send it out.

We are using SENDMAIL option in XOOPS and the box is a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.0 AS server. We own the entire box and are not actively (atleast on purpose) blocking any emails etc. This looks liek it may be some issue with Linux setup rather then XOOPS, but I am not sure how to fix this issue. Anyone know what we can do so all emails get sent out?

It seems that XOOPS mail system doesn't work most of the time and this needs to really be addressed if XOOPS is to become a real candidate for commercial websites.

It's been over a year and honestly we can't get much done with XOOPS due to poor image manager and the mail issue. We've been approached by Fidelity (a large mutual fund/brokerage company) and they want to partner to do a community portal. We've been playing around with XOOPS for months and still have these email problems as well as several others. This project would be HUGE visability for XOOPS if we decided to use it, but its unlikely with the problems that we'll be able to sell them on the idea of it.

If anyone in the XOOPS community wants to help... maybe you can get it to work for us and we can move forward, and get XOOPS a very high profile deployment. I'm willing to install a brand new Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS 4.0 server on its own box and dedicate it to this. You can probrably install and get everything working. Feel free to email goyetteb@deltainvestment.com if anyone over there wants to help get this going. We have 4 weeks before we need to bring a demo and a proposal to them.

It seems that the mail system XOOPS uses is screwed up... or flaky at best.

I have had similar problems on a server we admin (its not a hosted box) running Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS 4.0.

So I have no idea why after we have tried 20++ times we can't get the email to work consistently on XOOPS.

I've set up XOOPS numerous times on virgin (I reformatted a machine and installed complete and total new OS) Red Hat Linux AS 4.0 Server and I've never gotten PHP mail or sendmail to work correctly or reliably. I'm not certain why this seems to be so hard but I need to figure it out at some point in order to make XOOPS viable.

Anyone have any ideas?
