Hi folks,

Ive spent a few hours searchng over this little problem Im having

Noticed it when a new member tried to register, and was told there was a system error

I looked into this, and realised I needed to be editing my "User Info Settings"

I looked all through the FAQ, and section 2.2: User Info Settings, and thought that was easy, so I logged in as administrator to my installation, and Im unable to find the User Info Settings anywhere??

Ive updated the System Module as per the faqs, but still nothing

Obvioulsy Ive checked in every category, but it sure isnt there, all I have in Preferences/ Settings is:

System Preferences
General Settings [Edit]
Meta Tags and Footer [Edit]
Word Censoring Options [Edit]
Search Options [Edit]
Mail Setup [Edit]
Authentication Options [Edit]

Extended Profiles Preferences
General Settings [Edit]
User Settings [Edit]

Forum Preferences
Module Preferences [Edit]

News Preferences
Module Preferences [Edit]

Newsletter Preferences
Module Preferences [Edit]

WF-Downloads Preferences
Module Preferences [Edit]

Private Messaging Preferences
Module Preferences [Edit]

Small Ads Preferences
Module Preferences [Edit]

Contact Me Preferences
Module Preferences [Edit]

Web Links Preferences
Module Preferences [Edit]

Doubtless a stupid question, but HOW do I enable the "User Info Settings" ??

Ive ensured that every group etc has the correct permissions, I did this before updating the system module.

Im running xoops-2.2.3a-Final

Thanks in advance for any help

There's also a host of user setting under Modules-->Extended Profiles

and the "User" link. Heck, I just went there and found out that I have two members that I need to activate!!

Hi

Thanks for replying but thats not what Im looking for, what I cant find is this:

2.12.2. User Info Settings
Member registration preferences are configured in this area of the control panel. Some of the settings have implications for the security of your website.

This is taken from Operations guide\ch02s12.html

I dont seem to have this option anywhere, and Im having problems because when new folk sign up they get this message:

You are now registered. However, we were unable to send the activation mail to your email account due to an internal error that had occurred on our server. We are sorry for the inconvenience, please send the webmaster an email notifying him/her of the situation.

I need to be able to set all the New user details as per the Operation manual, IE the fields I show below:?

(Note: even though the new member gets told that they are registered, see above, there is NOWHERE that shows NEW signups to be activated, and there are NO new Users added in the admin section, and when the new user tries to login they are told they are not registered etc etc.)

Allow new user registration?
Minimum length of password required
Minimum length of username required
Maximum length of username
Allow users to change email address?
Notify by mail when a new user is registered?
Select group to which new user notification mail will be sent
Select activation type of newly registered users
Select group to which activation mail will be sent

Thanks again in advance for any help, My site is:

Im running xoops-2.2.3a-Final

I think you are reading an old guide about XOOPS 2.0.13.

There is a problem sending emails through Xoops. For the same reason your Contact Me form doen't work too. Check that you have set your email settings correctly. Go to Preferences >> System >> Mail Setup select the method that suits you best, i.e. is allowed by your host.

If you need the equivalent of User Info Settings you can find them at 2 places:
Preferences >> Extended profiles >> General Settings
Preferences >> Extended profiles >> User Settings

Ive spent all afternoon trying to get the EMail settings right.

PhPMail wont work, so I decided to try the smtp options

My Isp does not require SMTP Auth, but I have tried using both options,

Firstly using SMTP, I enter the correct details for my ISP, but when I come to testing and sending a test message I get:

"Wait a minute...
Errors
SMTP Error: could not connect to SMTP host server(s)
Could not send mail to xxx@xxxx.co.uk."

I have double checked , in fact about 30 times checked with my isp website the correct settings, basically they tell me the smtp host is smtp.wanadoo.co.uk, and I enter my correct user name and correct password?

Ive also tried with SMTPAuth, again getting the same response.

I must be doing something wrong, obvioulsy, any ideas what that could be please?

I have also tried with an email service that I pay for, who provide smtp etc, and tried using those settings, but no joy

Can anyone tell me what they use??, and how they configured it to work within Xoops,

Or even HOW I configure PhP_Mail to do the job?

Just to add, My server is Windows, not Linux, and doesnt support sendmail, but Ive been told to be able to use PhP Mail I need to :

ini_set("sendmail_from", " email@mydomain ");

Now the question is where do I tell XOOPS this?

Many thanks

if you use smtp make sure that you set the correct info for that...as i can see its not set correctly.

make sure you have pop account that you can use to set your smpt.

I wonder why phpmail dont work if your using unix?

Hi

Ive got two accounts that provide smtp, obvioulsy my ISP account does, and I have entered all the correct details, smtp.wanadoo.co.uk, and my username and password, but Im still getting -"Unable to open smtp host"

Ive obvioulsy checked my Email settings within my EMAIl program just to ensure that Ive got them right, I can happily send email using the settings Ive entered in XOOPS from my usual email clients, so I know that the actual entered data is correct, for some reason XOOPS wont open the smtp??

As for the PHPMail, as I mention, Ive been told by my PhP host that I need to set the variable as I described in my last post, but Ive no idea where I need to be setting this variable within XOOPS to enable PhPMail.

Has anyone had problems setting up either PhPMail, or in getting the smtp side working within Xoops?

Any help much appreciated

It seems that the mail system XOOPS uses is screwed up... or flaky at best.

I have had similar problems on a server we admin (its not a hosted box) running Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS 4.0.

So I have no idea why after we have tried 20++ times we can't get the email to work consistently on XOOPS.
