wierd thing happened....
i changed the theme folder name and tried all that but it didn't work. it would just come up as XOOPS theme with none of my site on it so i changed them back. then i emptied the rootdir\templates_c folder after i backed it up. then nothing would come up, just a blank screen so i restored that folder. so i was going to have my website provider do a restore of my whole server but before they did anything the site started working fine so they did not do a restore.
this is the only thing that i don't like about Xoops, it's very unpredictable. i've found this to be true in alot of cases but i'm not an expert at this so i'm still learning.

the last thing that i changed was about two weeks ago i installed the XOOPS Protector module but thats it. it was working fine for those two weeks.
about changing themes... i can't get into my site so i can't change the theme. i can ftp into it though. i have a backup that i can reinstall but i don't won't to have to do that.

i will have to check to see what ver this is but it has been running for quite a while now and i haven't done anything to it, it just started doing this one morning...

i added the <{$xoops_module_header}> to the theme.html but i still can't get into my site so i can't do any of the other stuff you said.

when you log into my site it ia hanging up at the /user.php page. the page that says "Thank you for logging in, The_Cheese.
If the page does not automatically reload, please click here".

i'm having problems with my forums. once something is posted, after awhile it won't show up when you click on a forum but if you click on the "sort by" and then "from the beginning" it will show up.
i've tried to find in the preferences where to fix this but i can't find it. i want my forums to show all topics all the time.
look at the bottom of these forums and you will see "sorted by" then over it will say "from last 100 days". is there a way to always make it say "from the beginning"?
any help would be greatly appreciated.

how can i add more fields to the "add listing" part of the alumni module? it needs stuff like "address", "kids", "spouse" and "other contacts".
